dot COM is the King -
all others depends by its keyword's name

It really depends on the country and language.

.coms will be number 1 for a while.

Contenders are .de germany, .es spain, .cn china, and .jp japan
and a few more

Next .net and .orgs. .nets are very popular in the middle east
.orgs are popular in most european countries

Some of the asian countries are favorable for .biz (business domains)

.info is popular depending on the domain name (especially in latin languages)

.tv can be considered universal since everyone knows what it means.

.ws and .cc will gain in popularity as the market shifts from ascii to idns for the non-english speaking world, right now .ws and .cc are speculative and usually only held for top level domains. The shift has already begun and is gaining momentum.

True, for Japanese idns .info slips just above .biz and .cc is ahead of both.

Each language is different. Is that you in the picture?

.cc, .ws. .biz, .info IDN wise are all at the bottom. In ASCII that could be different, don't know and to be honest really don't care. As for IDNs .cc is ahead of .biz What are you basing that on? IMO .biz is a little ahead of the other two, I would spend alot on any of them. There were a number of Japanese natives that registered IDN.biz last year seems like none of them renewed their idn.biz. check the drops and .info to my knowledge doesn't exist in Japanese and for .cc the only time I have ever seem to remember it mentioned in IDN threads was to get music.cc sex.cc business.cc ect. in the native language. I can think of maybe 3 or 4 threads all together about .cc since feb 2006. there were IDN.ws sold for $1 a piece, I believe you bought some of those from me(not japanese) :D within a couple of months of that similar keywords in japanese.biz sold for $50 a piece.

IMO .cc .ws .biz are all at the bottom, they all need to aliased to something cool. keep in mind .biz is a gtld might help with aliasing.

the rest of the extensions all have value in various markets, but .ws .cc are at the bottom and .biz is barely ahead for IDNs anyway again just looking at sales threads here and at idnf IMO.

If you miss out the dot COM, then try some .net .org & .info -
or if you could get very strong keywords IDNs in other extension (.biz .cn .tv .cc .ws), just keep it, but not too many :blink:

Yeah I pretty much agree with you, but there is a reason that the .cc .biz and .info are worth something with idns; because there are about 15 extensions that one can reg idns....so it narrows the field. With ascii there are hundreds of extensions. Look at all the cctld's whew!

To determine the usage of a particular extension for a language I use google. Although in Japan Yahoo may have been the better choice.

I simply take a popular word like 女の子
and do a search with google.jp like:

When I tried earlier today I must have misread the .cc I think I was a little shocked at the usage of .cc's in Japan. Of course 90+ percent of the URLS are ascii -- and that will change over time. When IDN.IDN fast-track is released for Russia and China next year, Japan will be hot on ICANNs tracks.

Interesting results below. I think I read somewhere that ascii .cc were very cheap n China, not sure about Japan. Not sure if that is also the case for idn.cc. If that is the case then maybe that is why they are relatively more popular than .ws I wouldn't be surprised if .ws is not even offered as an option on most Japanese registries. I know you know this but an idn newbie maybe not, but if you want the keyword then I would register .cc, .biz, .ws but I wouldn't plan on selling it. Check sales threads they just don't sell. btw just regged a .ws last week but it was a major langauge, mega keyword. would list it but might get one similar to it, still thinking about it.

i had to choose between a .ws and a .cc for a chinese word but was not sure...though the price difference was quite great

a part of it is due to a psychological interpretation that .ws is actually .waste (try pronouncing it)

It's not "one size fits all". Every country level Google weights extensions differently - some of them prefer dot net over dot com, some don't, etc.

The question is one of market research, and it can not be answered with a generalization like you are asking for.

Again, it is different for every country and language.

Right, that's what I figured. But I was hoping someone would care to share their experiences with them in regards to parking.

And as far as market research, that's why I am posting on this forum.
