As the title pretty much states: Which would you register for development: (keyword).us or (keyword).biz? I have the choice of either, for a certain phrase, and I'm weighing which I should register. Again, this is for development, not to resell. Any opinions would be appreciated & would be helpful in my decision :)

.US domains.US domains
That's a similar question I ask in the .biz official thread and still unsure to develop a .biz
The .us is less desirable than the .com or .biz as heard on forum as it is competing against the .com for US market and fail.

Randy,
Since this is for development and both the .BIZ and .US are available why don't you register both?

It's hard to say which extension is best without knowing the keyword(s).

Either way you can develop one and redirect the other.

Personally I believe .US has a promising future.

The Internet is still young.

Eventually folks will realize that it's better to have
a one or two keyword .US domain than a three, four or five
keyword .COM.

Once real businesses start using and developing the
.US domains, .US will take off.

It's already happening if you look.

Put this into Google
site:*.us

I also buy for development and have started moving to.us. I have a few .biz but for some reason have always had an aversion to that particular abbreviation. The .com is always taken and the owners typically think their domains are solid gold. Net, org, info have their place but I am starting to think economic issues in the future may make a domain clearly related to the USA a benefit. Certainly county tld's are popular in many countries.

I think a developer needs to interpret comments about the value of domains on NamePros with a good deal of care. I see the posts describing domains as "quad premium" and laugh. What end user knows or cares about a concept like that?

The other thought is to take both. Develop whichever one you like and if it later turns out to be a bad choice you can always 301 it to the other name. Cheap insurance is how I would look at it.

Thanks to you all -- I repped everyone that I was able to.

I tend to look at the 5 top extensions -- com/net/org/info/biz -- and attempt to own all domains of the extension ie If I could get "keyword" in all 5, I would. So naturally, with these 2 available, I'll reg both. (.us isn't in my 5 but I know .us is picking up steam and I might make it a 6th in my list). The real problem I've been having is deciding on which of these 2 to develop. I'll do a bit of research an see which seems more feasible.

Like most people think dot biz is in top 5 but I really want you to post here the conclusion on witch will you use .us or .biz and why.

Hope to hear you soon, this is very important as many are like you and me don't have the .com but other tlds and guess what will be best to develop.

I would try and think about semantic meaning between the domain and the extension i.e.

Is it a business type name?
Is it targeted at the US market?

If the site is to target English and European visitors say something like holidays in a US town then .us will seem a lot more natural to them than to the local residents.

If you can register both could you use one for a blog and one for products? and cross promote?

Here in the UK ccTLDs seem so natural we can't understand why .us hasn't flown but that .com first mover advantage seems unshakable over there.

Where is the site hosted and how will search engines handle it?

For example if I register a .biz here in the UK and host it in the US (cheaper hosting) it can be difficult to get it to show up in the UK search engines a .co.uk hosted in the US is a lot easier. (For a site hosted in the UK .biz or .co.uk are equal)

I have one domain in .biz

I know what most of you will say, but, Estibot says...
.com version is $94K
.us version is $180
.biz version is $50

At least Estibot think .us is more popular.

You make a good point -- reps added.
I'll post my decision and my thought process behind it, for speculation, in awhile. I'm leaning toward .us but there is still an allure in the .biz. I'll weigh it.

I thought .biz will do good when it first started.
biz - business.

But, again, I thought .ws will do good as well ;)
ws - their slogan used to be world site when they first started.
