I am about to reg a good two word domain.

(keyword+)Guide.TLD

.com is taken but others are avail. The keyword has to do with business/engineering.

.us .net .info .org .biz or would you reg more than one...and why.

I am in the US.

What would you reg in this situation and why?

Any input on this decision would be helpful.

well .net is the second choice .. but if you want all the hits directed to your page ...

all would be great but why waste money ?? if it is a really good domain then register all :)

If you're just gonna register one of them go for the .net

The xxxguide.ext makes me think .info while business in the US implies .us. I would consider both us and info.

This is with development not selling in mind.

yea I like .net , but only for sites that deal with the internet
and .com, for a missilanous site
and the I think can be mixed around in the catergories

it is a business so only .net or .us will do. I would go for the .us if an end user.

Depending on what the keyword is, I may go with the .info first. If you think it is a good enough domain, reg .org, .net, .us, and .info.

Is the .com version developped, or is it just regged (and for sale?) If your domain is good enough, I concur with the above suggestions and definitely get the .net and .org and the others.

However, keep in mind that if the .com is regged by a reseller, when he or she sees all the surrounding domains developped and/or regged by the same registrant, it will drive up the asking price....

RTM makes a good point. It may be worth asking the .com registrant if he/she is willing to sell before you reg some of the other domains. This is a calculated risk because that person could decide to reg all of the other extensions. If you make it sounds like you don't care if you get the .com and you are looking at other similar domains, I would bet you would be safe (meaning the .com registrant would not go and register all of the other extensions).

If you want to resell it just dont reg any ext....
I mean xxxxguide not .com is not worth a lot...
For a US business I'll go for .us
Anyway good luck.

I would take either the .net or if apropiate, .info.

Thanks Rob (and all others too)

Very helpful. Quite a lot of diffeent things to consider. Yes, the .com is just parked I and have sent a "lame" domain pro/reseller $xx offer for it.

Its definitely a hard choice. net info and us are all strong. org is tempting too...

What do you have in mind for the domain? Parking? Informational site? Forum?

so it looks like the .com owner did not have a real business to develop it. If you develop other extensions, you will be helping him. If you buy other extensions and tried to sell the domain to the .com owner, he may not be interested in them since he does not have a real business, not an end user. So it is not a win-win situation for you.

all opinions express so far raise valid points.
however, if you are going to do something with the domain, go for .net
.net (and .org) have more exposure than .info .us etc... for people outside the domain industry (for now).
