I have a question, and I am pretty pissed
off about it!
Is it possible that domain registrants can follow
my searches..
reason I ask, is about 1 hour ago I found 2 good
.info's that I was going to reg.
I transferred the money and when I went to reg...there both gone!

How can that be!!!!

and how can I find out who's doing this...
I know it sounds stupid, but, these names
were available till the second I go to reg them. Right after my search?
any help??

which registrar were you using? have you checked the whois info to make sure they are indeed regged?

This appears to be getting very common - to get around this I would first go to a register that offers multiple domain extensions - www.eurodns.com or www.123-reg.co.uk are 2 that I tend to use.
(don't selelect which extension you are interested in) just put in the name only

Find out if it is available, then go to the register of your choice to reg it straight away.

I use to search available names.
I actually just went over all the names
i have found available in the last 2 weeks

90% are gone.. Funny thing is, the .com's are available
I was searching .org's and .info's
those are the only ones gone..
It's too fishy...I'm pissed!!!
even my typo ones - man - I am definetly going to be watching for this

They'll all end up on sedo - at least then I can find out
who's done it.
I'll bet their all the same registrar
all the names I had are all gone, showing they are
still available, but I am waiting for the whois...I searched for one for the first
time today, and now it's gone.

here's an example

I searched on friday night for a domain with fill in it

I found available

justcontent.info
adfill.info
creativefill.info
thefiller.info

now, they are all gone, the .com's aren't just the ones I searched.
This morning, I tried to reg controlled.info as it was available
now it's gone!
callmecard.info
handsignals.info
storecoupon.info

i mean come on...why just the tld's I am searching??
to much of a coinkydink..

**and they were just all purchased as the info still has a question mark
even one that i regged the other day, still waiting for paypal
now the domain shows it's gone?...but I bought it the other day WTF!

***Strangely enough, it seems to have corrected on both the search
site, now it seems to be available yet I still can't reg it.
I sent an email and they have responded

I've noticed similar fishy things with idotz.net. I was searching some domains like party.sc which showed the domain was available. About 20 minutes later, it was gone. I went over to Moniker and the domain was available so I regged it there. I am not sure if some registrars are using shaddy practices to claim domains are regged that really aren't. As gazzip said, I would always search using multiple extensions.

Here is a neat tool I use. It can be wrong about 5% of the time but it makes checking names quick. Problem is it's only updated when the whois is.

I'll use whois.ws or whois.sc sometimes to check multiple extensions as well.

Yeah I have heard of that happening... which is why I use betterwhois.com to search for the domains I look for because it hasn't happened to me yet and hopefully it won't.

i notice .org and .info are ?
those are the only 2 extensions I searched for - about a week ago?
can anyone explain that?

are they really gone, or does someone have to sort through
them all and decide which their going to keep
then dump the rest?

there probably on sedo by now...lol

every single one the whois is ?
how come none are marked as x
does this mean there going to release them after they've had their pick?

ok, according to godaddy I am now the proud owner of
birthname.info
and
controlled.info

I have already changed the servers, so let's see
what happens.

So, my original question still stands
is there something that can get this info
cause the 2 places i search
are showing question marks on absolutely everything
i type in ... just the .info and .org
as those are the ones I usually search through.
Although, when I tried to buy here, it told me there was an error
and wouldn't let me either. So I have no idea what is going on
I guess I need a new good domain search site. Anyone have a good one

**Make sure you use the loopholes to save you $.

didn't know there was any :(
I paid 12.40 usd

it happened to me several times as well, good for you it took a whole night for it to be registered but the .coms i run whois on it i tell just less than 30 minutes and they're all registered. so whenever you run a whois, make sure the plastic is in your hand and are ready also to register it as well at the first sign that it's available.

I believe a thread has been posted about this. As one "revered" member said,
you'd better reg it right away or risk someone else grabbing it.
