Which would be more valuable? Why? And, by how much more?

Eg. City.com or CityState.com

Eg. Reno.com or RenoNevada.com

I am not looking for values of the names which I just cited, but rather general rule of thumb value and the reasoning behind it.. I am fairly certain you will all say that City.com is more valuable.. but I would like to know why? There are many cities in the US and the world that share the same name, so I figure with the state/province or whatever following the city name, it would make more sense and have good value too.

Cheers!

City, by a country mile. Why: They get assloads of type-ins, where city/state gets far, far less. Matter of fact, most cityname.com are the sort of names where traffic viability can almost be sustained on typeins alone (VERY few keyword names are like this, save for the top 0.01%).

Also, it's a pretty safe bet that far more people search "city" on G than they do City/State, although with smaller towns- particularly those that have common names where there might be 20 different "Lakeviews", city/state can actually be better for SEO. Still, 'there can be only one" pure cityname.com, and it is always the best.

There *is* value in city/state.com (and occasionally, .net and .org). If a city/state.com drops and it has a population of over 1k people, I chase it 100% of the time and rarely get it (although occasionally you do. I got LakeHamiltonFlorida this year- even though it gets VERY little search interest on G and has awful demos)

For lower TLDs, the value plummets.
For example, I think Rick Latona is selling SanFrancisco.net for $40K'ish. .com would be a seven figure name, easily.
Still, whenever I run across a pure townname.net/org in the available namespace, it is a) invariably a drop b) invariably a pretty small town and c) I almost always buy it.
I haven't run across a townname.com in years and years and years.
