There's a really big Q they leave unanswered in their FAQ.

Cliff's of their service is that if YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE WHO BACKORDERS A DN, then you will get it...BUT if there are more than 1 person who backorders it with them, then it goes to an auction between the 2 back-order'ers.

HOWEVER, here's the important Q left unanswered: IF i back-order it, their documentation says that "All backordered domains go through an auction process. If you are the first to backorder a specific domain, we'll use your backorder payment to place the opening bid – no additional charges are made."

Well...is that a publicly-viewable bid?
Because that's just the thing: I don't want to BACKORDER it via GoDaddy only to find that doing so places a bid that is viewable by all to see on this DN that I really want (and which otherwise would have just dropped quietly). So does placing a Backorder with GD put this DN "on the radar" of others who might otherwise have ignored it?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I don't have exact answer for your question, except that GD backorder only successful when it is not backordered in other systems such as snapnames or pool. Which probably means that you can register it by hand once it is dropped unless there other GD backorders for the same name

Yes, on godaddy, Backorders one only one bidder are publicly-viewable and others

I read this in the registercompass site. So well explained that I copy-paste:

"If someone places a backorder on an expiring domain name at Godaddy and they secure that domain for them, it will end up in a public auction in the TDNAM . An initial starting bid of $10 is then placed on that domain and buyers have the opportunity to purchase it.

Once the domain has been placed in the TDNAM aftermarket it is shown at the public auction site. Everyone has the opportunity to see the domain someone has expressed interest in and that domain is no longer a secret."

I've never backordered using Godaddy, Always put BO in Namejet, Snapnames and Pool.

I am wondering what they send upon successful backorder if this is the case?

Hello, we were able to secure the domain name you have backordered. But because there was no other backorders for that name, just you, we have put the name up for auction, so hopefully we will be able to squeeze some more money out of it.

You have old info; about 2 years ago, their backorder protocol changed:

All Godaddy backorders go to auction. If it's one person, then the opening auction bid is $10.00.

I know this because it happened to me about 2 months ago.
