Puzzled! What just happened?

I just tried to register a .COM domain with GoDaddy, it was available when I put it in my cart. When I checked out, it was still available, and I even paid for it.

Right after I paid, I got a message from GoDaddy:

The following domain name has failed to be registered:

(Domain).COM

Error: (Domain).COM: cannot register - already registered

We will evaluate this error and retry the registration
if appropriate.

If we are unable to successfully register the domain
name, your account will be credited accordingly. Please
allow one business day for the refund to be processed.

Please contact GoDaddy.com if you need any further
assistance:

WhoIs information shows it is available and no record exists.

This happens sometimes with godaddy.

They told me biz.biz was available once, let me reg it, and refunded me a week later - I should've known better.

It's always a good idea to double-check names before reg'ing at godaddy.

I'd imagine if you check whois - the name was probably registered a long time ago. It's just a bug. You'll get a refund shortly.

edit * - Whois says it's available??? Guess I missed that part on the first read of the thread. Double check it at another registrar. If it is indeed available - register it somewhere else.

This happened to me at godaddy as well with payperview.mobi and push.mobi. I thought I was a hero at first, then came the big let down. There is really nothing you can do about it.

you might wanna check for the domain availability at namecheap.com

or do a Whois.

cause godaddy's database is a little outdated sometimes.

Update: There is whois info on it now, it was Regged Mar 15, the same date I tried to register it. Could it be that the other person simply paid for it a split second before me?

I think whois may even give you the time it was regged? Check it out to see how long you missed it by.

After reading how godaddy's whois db sucks, i registered a domain name with dreamhost. 2 minutes later decided to check it at godaddy, so i could bash them too at namepros forums. It showed registered. i guess they do have realtime whois, it's buggy but still realtime.
