Push or Transfer

Hey fellas

I'm in the process of selling a name (through Escrow). I received a request to transfer the name to a different registrar rather than a simple push. Is there any risk to doing this? I thought I read somewhere that you should always push rather than transfer out.

Cheers

If the buyer wants the domain at a different registrar, then you should transfer the name. The buyer should initiate the transfer from the new registrar.
Also, if you're selling the name through escrow, I would think that the escrow company would be handling the transfer...

Yes there is a bigger risk transfering. Unless you trust the seller, always push the domain. However, since you are going through escrow you probably would be fine transferring (you are going to get your money).

The buyer can always transfer the domain on his/her own after you push it to them. Overall, I would still advocate for the push even when you are going through escrow.

Once Escrow gets the money they instruct you to give the name to the buyer (through whatever means you decide on). I guess its OK to accept the transfer request once Escrow has the cash.

Thanks

You can transfer, but it will take a lot longer for you to complete the transaction--you will have to wait for the transfer to finish which can be a few days.

I've found its so much easier to push to the buyers account, which is instant, and then let them worry about transferring if they wish to.
