This may be the stupid question of the day. I tried to push a domain at GD to another GD user. The had expired on April 27th.
I got thru all the way to where you have to accept the agreement, and then it came back with a message that said that it expired and it could not be completed.

Is that right? I thought you could do a push, and have another user renew it.

Godaddy gives you about two weeks past expiration before they pull the domain out of active status. At that point, you have to pay an $80 penalty to renew and keep the domain at Godaddy. However, you can transfer the name to another registrar up to about 42 days past the expiration date. Since Godaddy expired domains go through Godaddy Auctions, this can be frustrating for GD auction winners who sometimes discover the name was transferred out by the prior registrant and the auction they thought they won is refunded.

Pretty sure the answer is no on a straight push. Which is so dumb on GD part, then you'll end up transferring and they will lose that domain.

If you do end up having to get Auth Code to go to another registrar, don't change any whois, GD has some screwy non-ICANN policy that locks the domain if you change the whois, and you have to email to get them to lift it.

Once it has expired you can't push it. First you must renew, then push.

Better to transfer out to another registrar

It currently shows
Transfer locked until 6/14/2016: Registrant (account) change
Email my code

See screenshot. If I sent that code to someone else, they should be able to get it? But I guess if they want to keep in GD, they cant? right?

The only way to keep it at GD is you pay redemption, then push.

If they transfer out, they can always wait 60 then go back to GD if it's that important to them, of course pay each time, but cheaper than the redemption fee

And yes, make sure it is unlocked and send them the Auth Code and they can initiate transfer at the other registrar, and the Auth emails will come to you so just be sure to accept.

Domain is not I redemption. It simply expired on 4/27.

It cannot be transferred out due to the lock, so the only thing you can do is renew the domain and then push it.

Live and learn.
I got a negative TR rating from user because of this.
My first one, hopefully last one.

I have also transferred out domains expired. But this seller showed the domain had a "lock" due to registrant change which would have prevented the transfer out.

Exactly Bearded Goat. You understand the issue. Thanks!
Like I said, live and learn. :)

You can ask GoDaddy to remove the transfer lock and then transfer out.

There's an email address. You just mail them and within a day or two they unlock it.
