Hi peeps...

I need some info on Godaddy if anybody here have some. My domain expired on the 9th March 2009 and I am transferring it to another registrar. i don't know why it is taking so long but the transfer is still pending since March 4th.

Anyway, today, I received an email from GD that 21st is the last day to renew the domain. It is only 12 days since the domain expired. I thought it should be about 30 days before the domain is deleted.

Do you think I should just renew the domain in GD or just wait for the transfer to go through?

Thoughts on this is very much appreciated...thanks!

Al.

Renew at godaddy asap and wait for transfer. Better than losing the domain. I doubt it will go through now if the domain has expired already!

well, thanks for the feedback. I guess I will be renewing it then. Its just that GD's back end is crap and I hate using it. On top of that, it is $10 bucks when others are $8+.

Cheers, Al.

There is a $7.19 GD coupon for .com renewal it will save you a few dollars, yhkw105a

12 days is the amount you have to renew it normally after that you have to pay a high redemption fee, something like 60$ or 80$.

Something went wrong - a domain transfer shouldn't take more than several days. Retry the transfer again.

In regards to GoDaddy, they're among the easiest, and fastest to transfer out of ... never had a problem.

Anyways, despite it not being your intention, renewing them, using the promo code, at GoDaddy saved you money. ~$7 is lower than most anywhere else.

As far as I know it is not allowed by rules to transfer expired domain names!

Yes, good decision! GoDaddy is a good company! By the way what coupon code did you use to renew domain name with GoDaddy?

ICANN rules actually state the opposite! Expired domains in gTLDs, in particular .com, .net, .org, .info, can still be transferred out, at no extra cost, assuming they're still in the registrar grace period (which is often somewhat less than the autorenew period), which for most registrars is around 10 to 30 days.

Some registrars will charge a "recovery" fee or whatever, such as GoDaddy does after I think 18 days or something like that, but as long as the domain has not yet gone into the registry redemption period, one should still be able to transfer out such long expired domains at no extra cost.

With all that said, it's best to only do transfer-outs prior to expiration to avoid problems ... IMHO, the OP did the right thing to first renew, and then retry transfer out later.

Agreed ~ You should never transfer A Domain Name after Expiry ...Good that you renewed the Domain Name at Go Daddy itself... Just that you will have to wait for another 60 days if you want to transfer it out....

Thanks to Dean, I used the code supplied by him to renew the domains. I did not know of such codes, it is good that I got the renewals for less than $8.

As for renewals after expiry, I think it is no problem. I have done it many of times but in Domainsite. Within 30 days after expiry, I can still transfer the domains out. Even after it goes into redemption period, I can still request them to renew it for me(in Domainsite itself) and they have done so at no cost.

Personally, I don't quite like the backoffice of GD because it is too cumbersome and slow. GD also tries to shove upsells whenever I want to check out and it is very confusing. Just my personal opinion...

I think that it is very intereting things start when domain name expire. It is always dark part of the domain name registration service for me to get understanding what will happen with the domain name

By the way you can renew the domain with the current registrar and initiate the transfer process afterwards. All the remaining time will be added to the domain with a new registrar, so that you will not lose it! It is better idea than to transfer expired domains. You take a huge risk to lose a domain when transferring it between registrars after expiration.
