PayPal at GoDaddy requires a Credit Card too?

My CC at GD expired so I went to pay straight with Paypal. I could not just pay with paypal. I HAD to put in a credit card too. I called and confirmed that with customer service.

You know what? Moniker doesn't require it and .nets renew for $5.71 w/o any stupid tricks.

I was already migrating out of GD, but now it's sunk.

That doesn't sound quite right. GoDaddy requires you to use a verified PayPal account. In order for you to have a verified PayPal account you need a credit card. But I don't think you would need to have a valid credit card on file to use your PayPal account on file at GoDaddy. I can't be sure, but I recall when my credit card expired and hadn't been renewed yet, I was still able to purchase domains with my PayPal account. (This was 6 months ago). I would clarify that with them again.

Hey, I think I'm gonna transfer all my .nets to Moniker at those prices, even if I don't really like their control panel ;)

That policy was confirmed with my account exec.

You do need to have a valid and current CC on file with paypal in order to make a purchase using paypal. The reason has to do with a backup funding source requirement. You can use funds in your paypal account, but there needs to be a guaranteed backup source from the credit card.

It's a bad policy for the customer. It is just unnecessary. Paypal is tied to to a credit card or bank account already. There is the back up funding source. GoDaddy just wants an open check for all those sneaky auto renewals.

Anyway, like I said, I am trying to free myself of GD whenever possible.

On occassions I've asked my account exec to double check what he has been telling me, and they've been wrong, but not often.

It doesn't make any sense to me that they require you to have both a valid credit card AND PayPal. They don't ask for a second funding source if you pay by check or credit card. I'm not saying it is correct or supporting GD, but it's just illogical.

You can get a cheap visa gift card at Graphcard.com to solve your problem.

Good Luck.

Ok movingconcierge. I asked my GoDaddy account rep...

Q: Is it true that if my credit card expired I couldn't use PayPal to fund my purchases?

A: No you can still use paypal. We will probably send you the expired credit card notices though.

So, as I said before. It's sometimes good to ask your account rep to double check.
