Hello, I am not sure what the difference is between expiring domains or closeout domains, i really see no difference, all I know is that if the owner will renew the domain then I will get a refund and no domain. What about with buying closeout domain. Once you bought and paid for the domain am I guaranteed to be the next owner ? I know they give me about a week before I see domain in my account.

while the domain is in redemption - the old owner can renew + plus redemption fee.

Best keep the domain private until it's in your account.

A closeout domain is a name that didnt sell in the expired auction

So its about 7 days after an expired auction that you get the name, until that time the owner can renew

So lets say the expired auction ended 2 days ago with no bidders, almost right away it ends up in closeouts, after 2 days in closeouts you buy it, so that means 5 days later u get it

The chances of the orig owner renewing at this point is very low, it happens but low.

If you want me to talk to the owner and find out if he plans to renew simply post the domain and ill let you know. JUST KIDDDDDDING!

Yes, I have had closeout wins renew or transfer out.

It's baffling when an owner spends $80.00 to renew a domain that I have paid $5- $11 for, but there you have it.

So hold tight, and don't reveal the name until THREE days after it hits your account.

if the domain status is "OK" there is a good chance its in the process of transferring out

I'd wait two weeks after it hits your account.

I saw someone else talk about how its really not yours until X time later, what is this based on?

@MsDomainer

They only spend 80 bucks if they renew at Godaddy. Transfer it out to Name.com and it only costs them $8.25

Thank you everyone who took their time to answer my question. I asked this question lady from godaddy customer support but she didn't know nothing or acted like knows nothing. She didn't even know the registrar "Dynadot" as I was transfering the domain out. Really?

Just because someone works for Godaddy doesn't mean they know what domaining is. To her it's just a job.

Yes, I know this.

But I'm talking about those who renew at GD. This happens more often than not, at least to me.

That is a very good question. I have never seen any information from Godaddy stating that the domain can be taken away from you once it is in your account.

Before being in your account, yes, and it has happened to me in a couple of occasions, when the owner renewed the domain. But, I repeat, that is only before the domain is in my account.

I think there is no basis for stating the domain can be taken away from you after you have it.

I've had a handful of Godaddy expired domain auctions cancelled a few days before landing in my account (renewed or transferred out). Even though that's not the norm, I wouldn't get to excited until it lands in your account. Even then, I also wouldn't say anything for a few weeks, just to be certain that it's yours!

Yes, it has happened.

There is a thread here about a guy who bought IslamDaily [dot] com, and it after he had it in his account, Go Daddy said it was a mistake, that the former owner had renewed it.

It's rare, but it does happen, and there's not much one can do about it because GD has it covered in their TOS.

I had a domain taken out of my account by GoDaddy, who kept the domain for themselves. The only explanation I ever got was it was a trademark domain. Since when had GD had a trademark for the word Daddy by itself.

Ah the perks of being a registrar...

I wonder if someone knows if the fact they can take a domain from your account is a " rule " or an " exception " that can happen only in specific and particular circumstances...

You probably wouldn't be buying it if you didn't expect it to be worth at least a few hundred to an end user. If the person who renewed was a domainer, that would seem puzzling. But a lot of what domainers do seems puzzling:)

You have until day 42 to renew a domain. On day 43 it is removed from your account and put in the new account (auction winner) but the old registrant can still get it back on day 43, 44, and 45. Godaddy says under special circumstances that they will give it back on these 3 days. They don't specify what the "special circumstances" are but if you complain enough they will take your 80 bucks, remove it from the new account and put it back in yours.

The reason it rarely happens is most domainers know this process and will transfer on or before day 42 so to not spend the $80 redemption fee.
