Quick Question About GoDaddy Closeout Domain Status

I bought a Godaddy closeout for the first time even though I've bought quite a few from the public auctions. When I look in my "Won" section the domains that I won through auctions always say: Expired domain ready on : (the date)

With the closeout it just has a date (this thursday) and I'm wondering if it will actually be released to me that day or what that date means?

Also, has anybody ever lost a closeout domain because of the original owner renewing it, or is that even an option? I'm kind of worried it got renewed without telling me because the whois info still has the registration date as 2005 but the expiration in 2012.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Josh

From my experience, GD extends the registration another year when the original owner does not renew. They then run it through their "Expiring Auctions", then the "Closeout" sales.

I think the original owner can renew it up until the date they said you would get it.

I'm guessing if it makes it through the "Closeouts" without any takers, GD gets their refund for extending the domain, and then it follows the process for deleting the domain...

I have done a few closeouts and never had one get renewed on me, the odds that someone is going to return simply in these last stages is slim, since they have had weeks of chances already.

I am sure it happens, just not to me :)

(It could also be that Godaddy and the others have to put this disclaimer to save their own ass, just because it never happens doesn't mean that they don't have to be prepared for the crap to hit the fan lol)

Thanks guys, that makes me feel better that it will come through. I'll post tomorrow if it gets released to me.

Seems like an account manager makes all the difference at Godaddy, otherwise you are account-less. :talk:

Could you expand on that at all? I'd be interested to know what an account manager would be able to offer in cases like this.

Take a look at Stub's posts and I'm sure you can find out more. Basically you have to have 300 names (350 according to some people) in your account and will be assigned an executive account. You can they have your account manager help you with problems and to buy/sell names. Also you have a direct number and you can get a person on the phone much sooner.

To give you an example. My account Manager was out for 10 days. I wanted to transfer out a domain which was won by somebody at auction. I emailed support. They said it couldn't be done because the domain was over 30 days expired. I called BS and asked to have the issue raised at a higher level. They got another Account Manager involved. He also said it couldn't be done. Somehow my Account Manager heard about it and got it released.

I only needed my Account Manager to get involved because the domain was in a locked folder when it expired, but because it needed to be unlocked, it needed to be removed from the locked folder. which i couldn't do because the domain was no longer in my account. I think if the domain was unlocked and I had the Auth Code I could have transferred it out without asking anybody.

That's good to know even though I don't have nearly that many domains at Godaddy since most of mine are at Moniker.

I did get some good news tonight though. They released the domain to me a few hours before the stated date and it looks like it kept it's original age (a little over 9 years).

Thanks a lot for the help!
