Promoting Parked domains?

What are some of the more effective ways to promote parked domains since there is no link trading?

I would like to hear what other people are doing that works and what I should stay away from?

when other people will tell you about back links, please ask what does this mean on examples. i had been asking around a lot how to promote parked domains. so far back links is the only one answer i got. some other people was telling that it is also ok to submit parked url to search engines, but i dont believe that.
also i found a person on other forum, who told that he has a scrip he is using in yahoo chatrooms which is entering to the chatrooms and every 20 min sending that link to the public. i dont know if it is right thing to do or not.

that is chat spamming to its fullest. Illegal and immoral..i would stay away from it.
