I have a domain at Godaddy that was transferred in
from the Registerfly fiasco. it has privacy protection on it.
Does anyone know how to either edit the whois or remove
the privacy from it? Everytime I go to do it it tells me I can't,
but won't offer a solution...

Thanks for your time.

That is interesting. Normally you should be able to go to the domain control center. From there you can click on your domain name and in the middle area it should list all of the contact information. You will have the option to edit each one of them. If you cannot, maybe there is something special that needs to be done because of the fact that your a former regfly customer.

That's what I thought too, but it won't let me edit it - this is the message I get

The domain contacts cannot be updated because the domain is private.

mis-chiff - if the privacy protection is at Domains By Proxy (GoDaddy's private registration) , then you must log in to DomainsByProxy.com if you want to cancel the privacy protection ... it is possible that they transferred the privacy protections too , together with the accounts ... alternatively , email/call GoDaddy ...

I had to remove privacy from GoDaddy recently to transfer a domain out. The process was for me to login at http://www.domainsbyproxy.com - and my Customer # was the same as my GoDaddy customer number. From there you can cancel your privacy registration.

The nice thing about this is that by cancelling the privacy service, I did not have to edit my contact details, which would have triggered a new 60-day restriction period for transfers out.

My transfer out went smoothly within a week from cancelling the privacy service.

i thought that domainsbyproxy customer numbers were different from godaddy's, although i could be wrong. in any case, domainsbyproxy should've sent you an email when you started using their service, and your customer # is in there.

Domains by proxy...that's right...I remember getting an email when
the switch was happening.
It did have a separate account number than my Godaddy number,
but I was able to retrieve the other customer number and logged
in and made the changes, removed the privacy, and now it's reverted
back into my original Godaddy account.

Thanks very much for the help, problem solved :)

I had to change the whois from the previous owner first, I wasn't able to
do it when I acquired it at Registerfly. So I did that first, then I cancelled the privacy.
Worked great yippee, gotta love when it goes smooth :D

The customer numbers are different, you are right. and they did send
me an email, but, like everthing else I put off doing the change when
I had the instructions in front of me and forgot where I put them, and of
course, I never wrote down the new customer number (slaps self)
Thanks for your help, it won't let me rep you at the moment, seems I'm fond
of you :red:
