Powerful technique that has boosted my end-user sales 3 fold.

My tweak is deceptively simple. All I did was change my sales pitch up a bit and wham. 6 end user sales in the last two weeks, and 3 names which I have managed to increase my commanding price on.

Okay so maybe I haven't increased sales 3 times over but with this strategem working at this rate.

I changed one word in my sales letter that name being "domain" and I replaced it with "E-Commerce site". Before I jumped the gun (i may already have) I would like to test this method out for another 2 mo. before I report back any results. My previous sales letter went something like this...

Hello,
My name is XXXXX. Im the proud owner of xxxxxx.com
I am making this name available for sale mainly due to lack of time in developing the site as initially planned. I am contacting the owners of various extensions of this domain name or sites of similar content.
I am asking all potential owners to make an offer on the domain in itself.

If this name peaks your interest, by all means contact me using the information I've provided below. Thanks for allowing me to share what I know will be an excellent asset to your business venture.
[email protected] or [email protected]. I can also be reached at home, my number is 434-xxx-45xx.

Best Regards,

RonnieW( real whole name)

looks good, but I can not find the replaced word domain by E- commerce.

It is in the title of the letter?

Interesting strategy. Just as an aside, you might consider changing "peaks" to "piques" (to provoke).

LOL.. what is xxxxxx.com ? i want to know :)

So, the use of "e-commerce site" makes them feel that they will make more money from obtaining the domain, vs. using the word domain.
Thanks much for posting this.
I really love how so many here at NP try to help everyone.

Where did you post this LETTER on?

You've sold domains with this letter? How many and at what price? Just curious. I've seen several other nice intro letters and I'm trying to graph their success.

Nice suggestion too... I would be careful about misconceptions of e-commerce. Some may think it means an active buy/sell site with sales and revenues. Of course, PPC is e-commerce too... of sorts ;)

Interesting suggestion...will use that with a twist for some of my domains i tend to sell along the road.
But that isn't applicable on all domains, the domain has to fit the term E-commerce site but mentioning term does ad some recognition perhaps.

Some good information. In my experience a cut and paste note doesn't work very well. You must take the time to formulate it for each potential buyer. You can start with a template and work from there.

Add tip - http://www.7designavenue.com/promote/power.htm - sprinkle in some power selling words.

Some power words that has the potential to increase the spam points.

I would for sure not use these in the subject line and would be be very carefull using these type of words in my body.
Those pesky spamfilters throw everything in the junk box nowadays or reject emails when spam count is to high.

Well there is a difference between sprinkle and saturate. I get plenty of sales this way, so obviously spam filters are not a problem in my case.

Nice to hear that Whitebark.

Well i should have added - you need to contact in my findings about 6 potential end users for every one reasoned and interested response. You might get more responses than that, and I usually do, but they can be clued out, resort to the old - "but I can register names for $10", or the "I will give you $5."

This can be lucrative, but it takes work to find the end users, and you have to deal with the fluff inbetween!

I've only had success using this method for parked domains. With the ads currently on them, it seems to be an actual site. I wouldnt use it with a domain freshly regged on Godaddy without parking first.

Btw. My latest success (well almost) came this morning in my email for PotentialEmployers.com. This I sent out in a handwritten note and Im still wondering what to respond to "How Much?". :hehe:

Everything looks neat, with the exception of:

I am making this name available for sale mainly due to lack of time in developing the site as initially planned.

Instead replace that with any combination of the below:

1. The amount of visitors going to the domain looking for information pertaining to the company in question.

2. Why the name is a good purchase, length, specific to industry ect.., or
future increase of value.

3. How the company or individual will profit in some form from the purchase, either in revenue, visitors, or infamy. If they stand to gain nothing surely you stand to gain nothing too. This may help in a decision for someone who is business savvy yet not technical. It can also help move the letter further down the chain to those responsible for the purchase.

4. Changing the above to I am making this name available for sale for a short period of time before I develop it as initially planned. By saying you "lack time" it says the site may never be developed and they may be able to acquire on a drop.

A.This is probably a minuscule off subject, but don't forget about your email address. Saying please email me at hotguy69 will certainly drive less professionalism than Stating your full name in the form of and Email address, also don't forget to spell check, google toolbar has a nice one.

B.Keep in mind emailing or sending a letter to the right people is just as important a writing the letter itself. It could end up being filtered as spam mail and your message may never get across.

The e-commerce site is a very bright idea though. Putting a fresh look on it may help increase appeal.

Most of the times when browsing a site to find email contacts this can be a bit problematic. I often find myself only finding info@ or sales@ and not marketing@ addresses.
Marketing @company.com is of course (At least i think) the most ideal address to use and to be sure the message gets to the right people.

"What to respond to how much..."

For names under $1000, lately I've had pretty good success writing back some variation of this soft-sell: 'As far as the price goes, I'm not going to gouge you, but I won't sell it for only a few bucks, either. Ask yourself how much you want the name, and then make me a reasonable offer. We can go from there.'

I know it won't work all the time...and I know it's a strategy some won't use, but it puts the onus back on the buyer in a friendly way...and I've been happy about the way people are pretty fair in their offers. In two cases, their offers were more than I would have asked...one was less, but we had a good, relaxed negotiation.

Thanks good advice there CommanerCody. You seem to be new. You aren't of any relation to eCommando at DF are you?

I really see this bit of advice helping me tremendously! Thanks
