Ok so I've made a website, and I've registered all possible domain names, com/net/org/info/biz and what not else. That goes for both xxxxxxxxxxxx.com & xxxxxx-xxxxxx.com. It's a 16 letter domain without the hyphen, and 17 with.

Now here is my question, would you go for the 16 letter domain containing 2 wellknown words, or would you go for a short combo of the two words, for example the first 3 letters of both words so it ends up being a 6 letter domain - xxxxxx.com

It would be easier to remember, because it's only 6 letters, but it wouldn't be complete words. The domain name however would make sense, and it's still easy to pronounce.

Any feedback is appreciated since I've been working on this project for months already, and I'm finally ready to run HEAVY promotion on the domain name.

Thanks in advance :)

Well if it is easy to pronounce and easy to spell when combined I recommend you go that route b/c that is a very marketable route compared to the more "generic" route. However if it is hard to spell/not pronounced well... I recommend you just keep the full name.

Example:
Generic = JanAndCompany.com/janandcompany.com
Combined= JanCo.com/janco.com

^see Janco is much better IMO.
And yes I think it's still good to own the generic one to and redirect it to your main site. that way also you OWN it and if your site goes big/well known you dont have people reg'n it and then trying to sell you the other extensions or the generic version of it etc.

Good luck!

I completely agree. However, it also depends on the keywords. Take for example, webmaster-talk.com. It is a rather long domain, but still better than any weta.com , or something similar. In most cases I think it will work, but make sure you don't over abbreviate.

Agreed...with the above example "JanCo" is easily remembered to any casual user. So maybe better than a 16 letter domain, however owning and marketing the abbreviated domain(s) and pointing the 16/17 letter domains to the abbreivation would be great to get your "Brand" out there and known.
