Pool.com artificially inflates price. I was bidding on a domain. It had a total bid of 100 dollars. I counterbid for 120 Dollars and within 2 hours the price went to 232 dollars .

Pool.com is doing an unethical business.

Although i believe pool might do such things.

But how do you know it is pool who bids and not a normal bidder.

does it mean www.poolsucks.com ?

It will be hard to prove that they are engaging in such behavior?

Does anyone know the final outcome of Pool's botched auction of "BlogHosting.com"? :o
I remember a brief discussion about potential (fake) bids/bidders being from the participating Registrars (in the Pool sytem), versus any manipulation by Pool directly but unsure how it turned out.
Also, it would seem like a good general practice to follow changes/updates in WhoIs after any interested Pool auctions have concluded, IMHO.
B-)

Shameless promotion to get clicks...

I kinda like it :)

I think they are trying to milk every last drop of revenue they can from this cash cow until WLS starts. This would not suprise me.

It means nothing, but they probably do inflate bids.

I doubt they "artificially inflate" the prices, because doing this could result in them "winning" and getting screwed

maybe they could afford that since they probably in theory would be able to raise the prices quite a lot on most of the domains sold

no they do inflate the price. The domain iam bidding on had 9 bidders till 2 days before and my auction control panel showed it ends on 11th. But now it shows there are 11 bidders and auction ends on 13th.

Even in enom, the auction for hotcams.com was scheduled to end on 11th but now the date has been postponed.

If they are doing ethical business i think they should end auctions on its scheduled date.

How can bidders suddenly increase from 9 to 11. I always thought that in pool, Only those who participated in the bid before the domain is grabbed can particpate in auction. So if 9 people competes for a domain, and if the domain is grabbed by pool, the bidders list should show 9 members competing the auction control panel. But suddenly it went to 11.

How can you tell how many bidders there are in your Pool auction?

That will not give you a definite number. Lets say 20 reserved the name initially, of course all of you start at the $60 level. Until two days before, only eight made bids above the minimum $60, so the BidActivity will show one Bidder at $60 (probably the first one to reserve the name), plus eight other bidders for >$60. So at this point you can only see nine bidders.

Today two more $60 bidders decide to top the high bid, so now you can see 11 bidders. Wait till the 13th, and perhaps the rest of the $60 bidders will join in, and you'll see 20 bidders.

I believe the bidding for HotCams.com was 100% fine..

You can't tell how many people are in the game for an auctioned name.

You can approximate by using the bidder numbers of the auction. But as usually is the case, most bidders wait till the auction is near closing to bid. SO you may not know the real number of bidders till close to the end.

Thatz right. every one bids during the last minute. But what i mean is, if iam involved in an auction for 60$ base bid and along with me some others also enrolled in that bid, and if pool catches that domain, wont i be automatically enrolled in the auction along with the others?. So if 8 persons bid for a domain and pool catches it, then 8 persons will be enrolled in the auction.

That's correct, but you have no way of knowing how many people are enrolled in the auction. It only shows you how many people have actually bid, not enrolled.

I just won 2 domains from pool without any of them going to auction. I doubt they are inflating their own bids.
