.mobi Performance of my two Mobis at auction

I've been disappointed by the performance of my two mobis in the Sedo auction. Installer.mobi has received one bid of $70, while updater.mobi is at $80, with less than two days to go. Why do you think that is? I mean, both have good OVT and Google search stats, and many possible uses:

* A software installation management tool for mobile devices. A program that monitors your installations and allows clean uninstallations.

* A website for a company that installs real-world products - for example, auto stereos, alarm systems, cable tv, or satellite dishes.

* A website provided by a manufacturer of mobile devices for users of their mobiles to update their operating system or other programs.

* A third-party software manufacturer could use this domain for the same purpose. Suppose, for example, you’re a software company that creates programs for the Palm OS. Anyone with a Palm device could visit Updater.mobi to update all of their programs. Very easy to remember, since it’s so obvious.

* A plugin that will automatically detect, download and install updates to your mobile.

Don't be disapointed yet, the auction isn't over. The most action often comes in the last hour or even final minutes. Have you contacted potential end-users?

Agreed.

Plus, when good domains go to auction at a bad time (and I don't think there will ever be a worse time in terms of low-reserve category-killer .mobis competing for the same buyers' attention) you are bound to get less than what you would have received otherwise.

Having said that, I know you can't ask buyers to wait - you only have seven days from the time of the offer.

Hope somebody notices them on that very long closing-soon list at Sedo, but IMHO allnicksgone is right as usual: end-users can make a dramatic difference to the outcome even at this late stage.

You may want to see who comes up in the Google search results for these generic terms (or even some closely related ones) and try contacting those outfits that either have an obviously weak URL or can be an obvious fit with .mobi.

GL!

P.S.: IMHO you should definitely try contacting larger companies that specialize in instaling products - some of these guys must be paying a small fortune for advertising hard-to-remember URLs or even phone numbers.

Thanks for the advice, both of you. I will spend my time tomorrow alerting some possible end-users.

I've got a bunch of what I think are very good .mobi domains going right now too (see my signature link), and there's little action on them. But I expect a few more bids on the last day.

I would disagree with Mobi Cheap, though -- I think getting a huge number of eyes in the .mobi section of Sedo's auctions can only help other .mobi auctions, as long as there's a bit of distance between the Premium end times and the others.

I wouldn't disagree at all with what you're saying Dagersh, the 'bit of distance between the Premium end times and the others' being absolutely key and not in the OP :).

I look forward to a good bidding war in the closing moments, and - if I hadn't completely maxed out my borrowing capacity - I would having been a bidder myself.

It would be a real shame if for instance installer.mobi goes for anything close to the current price.

If anyone is left wondering why I'm focusing on installer.mobi, just check some of those PPC rates guys - I haven't looked recently but unless things have changed fundamentally in the last couple of months we are talking pretty expensive keywords in some popular markets!

PS: Dagersh, just looked at your list - some very attractive European beauties there!

Best of luck to both of you guys!

I think that you can sell your names at the marketplace next time. It sound good when there are buyers for your names at sedo.

Good luck with your sales.

It looks like they will go for minimum bid. Shoot. I'd pull them if I could. Sedo stuck them in there with no reserve, without consulting me. A good deal for someone.

Over 5 hours left. Too soon to call it.

If you think this such a good deal buy it back yourself

How much did they go for?

If you are not prepared to risk the name at min bid, do not start it that way. If you have enough names to let a few go cheap, then let the balls roll. But you were in control of how the auction started and the reserve is almost always zero when its placed by a broker. They make it clear to you when they discuss it with you via email. You must have agreed to it at some point.

Updater.mobi went for $100, and Installer.mobi for $320, so I'm somewhat mollified. I think they're worth more, but it's a reasonable result.

Assuming you hand regged them, not a bad profit. I think right now it is best to hold your best mobis until all the premiums are released.

Good advice, IMHO.

Did anyone see the installer.mobi auction?

Bidder 6 came in after the auction was extended (due to a late bid by bidder 5) and went on to win the thing...

Could have been worse I suppose.

Clocker24, congratulations on a stellar ROI!

A valid point - at present rate that will be about 4 years - and there has been no anouncement of further SEDO auctions beyond round 3. I would like to see more names developed a lot faster than that, hopefully. .Mobi is not best as a short term play for most people. The opportuntity to buy at reg fee this level of potential, given that it is very speculative, is rare.
