Pending delete?

I am confused i have been looking at lists of domains that are going to be deleted/dropped soon, and the whois info says it expires like sometime in december but the expiration list says its like being deleted today or something and when u look at the status on the whois info it says pendingdelete, can someone please clairify for me, thanks!

It drops after 5 days from the date of Pending Delete.

I think when it goes into a Pending Delete status, the registrar puts in an expiry date of sometime way in the future whilst it gets purged from the database.

so if it says pendingdelete it could be deleted any day now? and does anyone know wut like international time domain registers use for when days end?
