If the name is any good, someone else will spot it. Even if it isn't any good, there are registrars which automatically catch dropped names, test them for traffic to determine if they can generate enough ad income to hold the registration, and drop them within the 5-day grace period if the traffic is insufficient. I have one name that I was thinking about catching so had a Godaddy monitor on it. When it became available I decided to not register the name. But I have seen that name "tasted" numerous times by different registrars over the last few months.
