I searched a domain on Domain Tools and it said it was available but on Godaddy it was taken. the whois says the following:

Created On:20-Jan-2011 07:05:45 UTC
Last Updated On:03-Mar-2012 13:07:43 UTC
Expiration Date:20-Jan-2013 07:05:45 UTC
Sponsoring Registrar: (I wont name it)
Status PENDING DELETE RESTORABLE

So I'm a little confused if this is going to be deleted or not as it says it expires in 2013 yet it says "pending delete"?

It means the domain is in redemption (this is for .us/.info/.biz domains etc).

OK so it will be deleted soon then if the owner does not renew it. I'm a little confused though why it has "Expiration Date:20-Jan-2013 07:05:45 UTC" if it is in redemption?

It's because the expired names get renewed provisionally with the registry, so the registrant benefits from a grace period... same with .com/.net domains.

ok thanks for the info rep will be added...

also, what date could I expect it to be made available to the public? it's a .info!

I would guess in roughly one week, wait until the status changes to pending delete scheduled for release, then you can check on snap or pool for the release date.

ok, so I would only be able to back order from snap or pool. What i mean is when will it be put back on the public market, not through the dropped services like pool or snap?

As sdnsinc said, check the respective backorder sites for the exact release date.

If nobody has backordered it anywhere then you may be able to register it by hand.

It really depends on how badly you want the domain, and whether there are others who are eyeing it.

It depends on the value of the domain name. Anything remotely valuable will never drop and gets picked up by snap, pool, etc. On the rare occassion it will drop and become available to register. In this situation, it becomes available roughly 6 days after the domain was set to pending delete scheduled for release status.
