But something I don't understand is.... how did that hacker manage to send this mail using "PayPal Inc." <[email protected]> ???????

As far as I know [email protected] is paypal's true email.

Just a FYI...

Paypal notification email always starts with (Dear 'Your Name'), and NOT 'Dear Paypal customer' or 'Dear valued PayPal member', etc...

Using a simple PHP script they could make their e-mail address look like a paypal e-mail address. I could scam people pretty easily if I wanted to but I am not like that.

Sending emails from any address is not a big deal. Scammers are professional on that. Thanks for the email. We will be aware for any emails like these.

You should forward it, with full headers, diretcly to the legal/investigation department at PayPal and they would, hopefully, take an action against the fraudsters.

I did the same days ago when I received one from "Verisign" asking me to install a file on my server. File that was indeed a virus.

Exactly, I always report these to [email protected] and [email protected]. I get responses saying "GJ, this was a spoof, here's how to tell them in the future." but at least I know someone's looking at them.
