My traffic monetization journey started over 5 (uhh..lol its now 7 years ago. WOW!) years ago and its been a roller coaster of a ride. I have experienced everything from failure to success, success to failure, and everything in between. So, why am I an expert? I am an expert because I fail!

"WTF, RJ...what kind of statement is that?"

It's an honest statement. Often times people give up after their first failure. They then complain about how things aren't right or rigged. They say it's everyone else's fault as to why things went bad and so on. I am here to tell you now that my failures and success have all been 100% me.

So I am creating this thread to help everyone fix or figure out what went wrong. Help them with their successes and failures. I am going to ask everyone for a few things so that way I can get a better understanding of where you all are but before I do please read the following:

#1. Humility! Please respect one another. You're all on different parts of the path.
#2. Be Humble
#3. Don't act as a know it all!
#4. Do not make fun of someone because they don't know something. We are all learning and I have asked every question you could imagine repeatedly to countless people till I was sure of my answers. Please respect one another.

Now, what I need to help people are the following;

#1. What specific challenge are you having?
#2. What current steps have you taken to resolve the challenge?

Okay so those are the first two; now the following is needed as well:

#3. What is the domain name & why did you pick that specific name?
#4. Where is the domain parked?
#5. Are you using any services like "Above.com"
#6. Please provide a screenshot of 1 month's revenue
#7. Is the domain set to "1-click, 2-click, Zero click, etc..."
#8. What did you pay for the domain?
#9. Share anything you feel is important that I may have missed

We are all on the same journey but different paths. If we can all take the same journey, on the same beautiful path....why not?Any other questions regarding monetization of traffic are also allowed.

How can I help you?

Hello Smurge,

I am new to the domaining business and I am not sure where to start from. I have read some information in the past about how to choose some good domain names and was suggested to use hand register domains. However, others also suggested that it is better to find a few affordable expired names from Flippa.com instead. They suggested to find the soon expired or dropped domain names that I like and then do some researches before starting to bid or buy them. Once the domain is obtained, they can be either put in parking sites or resell them at the right time for extra money. That's what I have understood

I am new so the process seems to have many tricky parts. I would like to enter this business to make some money and I would like to heard any recommendations and tips from you on how to start this business and how to avoid making mistakes that a newbie like me probably will encounter along the way.

Thank you!

Hi Smurge,

Good to see you back. I have been in to domains just under half year and domain parking have been on my radar from the first time I learn about it. I have read all 33+ pages of comments on your advices and replies how to find good parking domains and tried to apply it in to practice. I have to admit that I have not done well in that department and now I do mostly focus on brandables over parking specific domains but every once a while I look for some name with hope to find the right one and start earning more. My goals is having couple domains generating together $20 a day so I could cover all my daily fixed cost and flip other domains for pure profit. My biggest challenge with parking domains is to find real examples I can learn from. Without those domains it it hard to find indicators to look for, hence I am running in circles. I have 2 domains which earn some money ($1+) a month but it still does not give me clear indicators for overall strategy. I register most of the domains in drops my biggest problem is how to estimate what kind of traffic/ revenue domain can provide based on available data (majestico, ahrefs, search volume, cpc). Since I did not figure the system yet I do hesitate to buy pure parking domains with no meaning (have 20 of them with no success). To learn more I do read posts on NP and other forums looking for some nice examples (interesting was recently one about fail listed domains) but still there is much to learn. I.E. I know people are looking for domains in certain niches but how do you clarify this is right domains (it can be niche through name like cancertreament.com or domains which have right back links to the same topic). Or porn industry domains ... I bought couple hoping for high visits based on number of backings, but they failed. How to spot that back links are gonna produce? Or why is domain with $27 cpc getting only few cent a click?

Ok now to specifics. I will provide one of 2 more successful names to discussion.

Bought in closeout domains on GD auctions for round $29 with all fees
Reason: this used to be main page for active pro triathlete from US which had even her wikipedia page pointing there.
As all my domains this one is parked with Parkingcrew, I started with sedo, moved to bodis and now have all in parking crew where I am getting 10* more in the end of the month then with predecessors.
I am not using Above right now.
It is automatically set to 2 click for US visitors (promoting triatlon bikiny, ironman etc)

Hope this post will help someone and please do not click on this domain since it might destroy my revenue if it gets fail listed.

Thanks Smurge for your input especially if you decide to disclose some methods to estimate revenue of domains in the drop.

This is a good start. While it might be a little outdated in some areas everything still applies.

Smurge lets not forget setting domains to inquiry as well while parked. I usually make a sale every 2 to 3 months off this method with bodis alone. Usually its a domain that don't make hardly any revenue as well yet sells $300 to $1,000 and up too.

Good point and absolutely agree. Its just more money if its sold.

How can I help you?

Appreciate you for creating this thread. I am new to domain parking. I always wanted to try it. So I registered 5 insurance domain names (hand regged w1w2w3.com - I was able to get only such names, which had about average of 700 to 1000 searches per month in Google). I have those parked at DomainNameSales. Its almost 20 days now. So far I got no clicks. Not encouraging for me. Maybe I am doing it wrong. Any comment?

Thank you

Search = this will not get you clicks folks.

In googles eyes, Search simply means , "X amount of people are typing in that KEYWORD a month"; it does not mean that many people are typing in "Keyword.COM".

When you buy search domains you are better off developing them and you have a much better chance of getting them then.

Hope this provides some insight for you.

So if I understand right, its type-in traffic that will help with clicks. Is it still possible to hand reg such domains now? Can you provide one or two examples please?

Hi Smurge,

I have a million questions but I'll be reasonable and stick to one topic. :) Thanks a million for taking the time to do this.

I'm curious which parking providers you use for Zero Click and from your experience which ones pay the best RPM?

Where might you also advise parking high traffic volume adult domains for zero click?

I'm currently using Bodis on a handful of domains and my RPM for adult domains is around $2.50-$4 and around $9 for non adult. It's a reasonable rate for adult but I'm wondering if I might improve this either by selling the traffic or using another company.

I've decided to focus on zero click for now as anything that has cropped up on the drop lists with a decent backlink profile has far too much competition. Testing domains at $8.90 a pop compared to a minimum of 69 for a backorder seems too risky.

@smurge, Are you using any services like "Above.com"?
Is it recommended to enable "Maximizer" at Above.com?

I'd like to pose a question which expands a bit on this.

I noticed a comment from Rick Schwartz following a 2013 article (reference below) that mentioned:

"You can lose traffic and bidders. Domains can go into โ€œShockโ€ when moved."

You have to sit up and listen to a guy like Rick Schwartz. I've always wondered therefore whether traffic rotation keeps the domains in 'shock' and it's better to just keep your domains in one place.

Has anyone done any testing like this?

Cheers

Hello!

I started parking only a few days ago, using Above service and three parking companies (a previous experience with Godaddy Cashparking was unsuccessful). So far, 21 hits = $0.01! :) I believe the image gives an explanation... I would caption it as "The importance of demographics"!

@smurge ,

First of all, thanks for your time. I want some advise refering to my domain(s). ;)
Well i recently bought a domain name kukes-airport.com, coz it's going to be build an airport over there for sure. I tried to get all the possible combinations and with more than one extension, in order to increase my possibilities. To tell the truth, i don't have any experience in Domaining, and i have no idea about pricing and stuff, regarding to this kind of situation. I have tried to read a lot during this months, but actually i didn't find any good information related to a similar situation, or how to treat a situation like this. I don't know if someone is going to contact me sooner or later, but at least i know i got almost all the standart combinations of airport websites used round europe.

I posted a thread in this forum some times ago, but didn't receive any good feedback.
If you have any advice or opinion.. Every advice is appreciated.

Any advice regarding which parking service to use for what type of domain? Do any of them have clear advantage by regions, for example, monetizing US traffic or Chinese traffic etc?

Each company offers something unique. Some moneitize specific domains better than others.

If you have Chinese traffic I would try : Bodis.com

If you have U.S. traffic I would try Voodoo.com and or/ Bodis.com

One thing you will want to do is give each company at least 15-30 days to moneitize that traffic coming in. After that time frame try that traffic on another provider for the same time and then compare stats.

One thing to be aware of, Chinese traffic isn't going to make you big money per click. Typically you are looking at .01 -.05 cents per click. It's not much but if you have a lot of it , it can add up quickly.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for the insights.

Just to get a feel, per 1000 domains that give me around 300 uniques, 30% US, 30% Western Europe and, let's say, the rest Chinese or similar, how much daily revenue can be estimated (very rough range)?

Does each unique give me 1 view or those parking pages are set up to get 2 or more page views from them?
