It's my older brother's birthday as well. And I just found my hidden cache of roman candles leftover from July. Woot woot!

Happy Happy all.

Varon - I always recommend turning off your computer, kicking it 3 times, taking the coffee mug out of the coffee holder (dvd drive), and turning the power back on. If you have a voodoo doll, that sometimes helps. :)

Donny

:laugh: Yes, I need to try it that way the next time.

Anyway, Happy Birthday to your son and I hope you and your family have loads of fun tonight. And a Happy & Prosperous New Year Donny :)

Happy New Year to you Tony..Meg, Gilsan (Madeira Island), Dave, my friend from NY (kevin) ..and all here on NP. And wishing every Parked.com member, a constant "10" Q Score for the whole year ahead.

:hehe: Funny thang them numbers :yell:

Okay a new year... Good thing my dad doesn't frequent the forums, he says "Just another year closer to your grave"

Competitive person? I am, so I came up with a little game plan for 2009 which is: Set a financial goal every month for my parked.com numbers and how to achieve the goal.

:$: My biggest request to Donny

Please make sure I get the most revenue share possible.. A nice increase in revenue share would go a long way with the Gross income for 2009.

I have noticed some big changes over the past 10 days;

  • Many of the regular advertisers have just about disappeared (atleast in my niches)
  • RPC has been sliding down like never before (this may be due to my Qscore, but it still hasn't been hit this bad before)
  • Many of the advertisers I see on the Y! feed are now PPC arbitrage ads (even at top spots)

I have a feeling that its the PPC arbitrage advertisers who are creating the biggest havoc for Q scores on Yahoo. These guys start blocking every other site when they see their CTR fail. They fail to understand that a visitor has already clicked 2-3 ads to finally reach their Parked page. What can they expect? Another click? What they don't understand is that if they keep blocking parked domains, they will be left with literally no traffic sources in a few weeks. Plus, they are making other domainers lose their Q scores due to the blocking. They are eventually harming themselves by drying up their only source of traffic.

The other reason can also be the year end budget allocations. Hopefully, we should see many advertisers return by mid Jan.

Interesting, cause what I'm seeing (both at Parked and in my AdSense) is a fairly high EPC (or RPC) but CTRs, and in the case of parked domains, real non-bot visits, are way down. If I can *get* the clicks, the revenue is great. It's gettin' 'em that's the issue.

For the past 30 days or so, here is what information I can share. The 1-15th, the RPC was normal and the CTR was normal. Starting on the 15th the CTR went down 1% (nothing big) but the RPC went down about 2-3 cents. On the 26th the CTR went back up to where it normally is, and RPC went back up 1 cent, so we are still on average 2 cents below normal. I think the 5th will be a good day for everybody.

It is the economy that will cause more problems for parking companies and every company that anything else. I've already seen domainers who had to go back to a 9-5 job and then only be a domainer at night. I think that trend will continue until the end of the 3rd or the beginning of the fourth quarter. But Seabass, if you ever want to sell some of your domains, let me know, just maybe not that one doman. :)

In the end, I still think that overall, 2009 will be about 27% better than 2008. That's what I'm shooting for. We should have some fun and interesting things coming out this year.

ZeroHill - It's my personal recommendation to never remove any keywords. That's just me. I would only ever remove possible TM issues.

Donny

This is very interesting. I didn't know keywords would change after five days .
I assumed because of the large emphasis on "remove keywords" section that the thing was to remove phrases manually.

And that just shows you how wrong you can be :)

The right information is a very very precious precious thing.

I have a question.

The example you gave of the blackcastle domain...that one got a lot of traffic.

Donny, would you still apply the "do not remove keywords" to light traffic names?

==============

I've gone to the site looked at a few names, and I have another question.

What about very obvious phrases that should be excluded?

Example:

chatting - city . something

I reset the domain and I get this phrase "town".

I look at the domain, and to me it seems the system is guessing it's to do with "town" or "city".

Surely in this sort of situation, it's going to be better to remove the phrase? But your telling me the system will do this...after five days...?

Which is great if that is the case :)
