Would anyone be interested in joining a mailing list that sends the top 250 domains every single day?

If so, would you pay for it?

If you would, what would you say is a fair price?

Well you can say it all you want but some folk will always be wary, myself included, good luck

Maybe the 5th time is the charm. I'm not skimming off the top.

Shane, you're a winner and knowing that someone with a good eye for the best names will be compiling the lists is enticing in itself.

Look forward to the launch, I'm in!

And for the 4th time.... I'm not skimming off the top.
Shane,
I ask why would someone pay for a list and then post it for the masses? I have never met a domainer or any investor who was looking for MORE competition in pursuing a commodity. The only time competition is good is when you are selling not buying. I know what my time is worth. Please let me know when you start.

Cheers

the thing about this kind of idea is that the more people who subscribe, the less valuable it is.

Another issue is that for example I am in Australia and would I get up at 2.56 am every day to checkout the list ........No. It is worth remembering that many of the Namepros visitors are from all over the world and in different time zones. This is a setback that may not suit some people, good luck

We are talking about a very small amount of money. If you happen to not like the list, just unsubscribe.

I am sure that Shane is not interested to be (more or less) ridiculed by delivering some piece of crap.

Fantastic idea... a lot to work out... for example, if you had 1000 members or whatever you want to call it, would you send the same list to each member? I respect your talent @Shane Bellone, but it would be hard to justify if I was competing against 999 other people. How would you regulate your lists?

competing against 999 other people

There would be more than just subscribers, there would also be people who find the same names on their own.

but the list brings value to domainers who don't have time or knowledge and would anyway not be able to find bulk of the names on the list.

There are so many daily .com drops, I don't even try to create a shortlist.

There are 100,000 domains that drop each day. That is 3 million a month and 36 million a year. Do a lot of people go after the same names? Yes. Can you find golden needles in the haystack? Sure, but it takes a ton of effort.

You are a very educated domainer. Your list, no doubt, would be excellent - I am sure.

But, in the real world I can see some problems arising from this...

Once this list is distributed to 10-1000 other people, a lot who may not have the sense to keep the bidding within a reasonable range - The price for the domains on your list will go for a much higher price than their actual value. Leaving the purchaser with less margin for profit.

I think your list would be great for people new to the domain market to learn what types of names to go for, but I do not think the list would remain valuable in the long run for anyone to purchase from. You will inherently drive the prices of these names higher than other names of similar value that did not make your list.

Also this will be driving your own prices up if you are competing in the same pool. So if you truly do not "skim off the top" then you will probably pay more for domains in the end than you earn from your list. (from increased pricing on your listed names). If you are not stopping your purchasing - this will hurt you. This will force you to stop the list, or alter the criteria where you have "2 lists" to keep from skimming off the top of the one you publish.

If you move forward with this - I would recommend that you consider using it as promotional material to direct traffic to your site or generate awareness of your brand. I do not believe the pay model is the way to go here. You would create more marketing value with emailing/posting this list than you could buy with the money you earned from selling it. (Plus some income for affiliate linking to the auctions).

Either way - for profit or for advertisement - it will annoy some people that you are compiling a list for others that may contain names they hoped were going to slip under the radar. That is unavoidable - but plenty of people publish domain list so it is just part of the industry... So no hard feelings here.

Just my $0.02 since you asked for input.

None-the-less, I wish you best of luck in your venture!

-Mike

Count me in, I would be very eager to see such a list, if only there is no bias against my time zone (CET) as far as release timing is considered.
If the list is usable for me - I would pay much more than 20.
Whether I would remain a longer subscriber depends on your definition of "good" domain name. I am not a day trader, and flipping domains for a 100 dollar profit is not what excites me. A good domain for me would be a name that has a higher ROI potential, even over longer time.

at $20 a month/$240 a year if you got one good resellable name a year you could see a nice ROI....

There are ways around that. I'm working on it. :)

To be honest, I really don't care. I'm not catering to every domainer. I'm not ever going to be everything to everyone. No reason to try.

We are talking about a very small amount of money. If you happen to not like the list, just unsubscribe.

Valid point.

I'm now considering a different pricing structure + a list cap.

There would be more than just subscribers, there would also be people who find the same names on their own.

Agreed. Lots of work.

Hey Mike. Thanks for the detailed response. I agree with a lot of what you said.

I briefly looked at todays list and saw a bunch of foreign names... Curious if these would be of any value to anyone?

Bodega.com (corner store)

NewComputer.com

Orejas.com (Spanish for ears)

EEJ.com

LosDelincuentes.com (Spanish for the criminals and it's a rap song)

******.com (650k population)

Minena.com (Spanish for my baby)

******************.com (Translates to college)

DoiThay.com (Vietnamese for change)

Snelheid.com (Dutch for speed)

I checked a few and they are currently unavailable (past drop time). So I'd say 3 or 4 out of 10 were available for reg fee today.

The 2 blanked out are mine. If you were paying, you'd have a chance to win those at auction.

:)

Thoughts?

I had already spotted a few of those :)
If they are going to attract competition and multiple bids, they will be visible anyway.

That's what 27 years of experience gets you ;)

P.S. I was born the year you started domaining.

I like bodega.com a lot. Best name, doesn't have to be an IDN to spell correctly.. I could sell that quickly....... I think all of the names are nice. If you can produce lists like this, you are on to something.

I could sell that quickly.

I can't even begin to imagine who would want Bodega.

Maybe someone could start a companion subscription for a step by step start to end guide on how to sell a domain. Take a caught/new domain each week or month and show to sell it, with detailed nitty-gritty steps. I guess lot of noobs would be interested.
