From what I have seen with my 1,000 domains, it doesn't seem to matter what the TLD is as far as Google goes. If you are buying for parking, or developing you can get the cheap TLDs.
But if you are thinking about reselling the domains, then it takes more thought. Org is great, but better for social or community sites. I think sunglasses.net is better than sunglasses.org for a site that sells sunglasses. Both will work, but if someone cares about the "image" of the site, it may affect the price. In the same way, I think gamersforum.org is better than gamersforum.info. Of course, the .com works well for just about everything.
Ok, in my opinion I would rank the TLDs like this with the top being the best/most valuable (in general):
.com
.net
.org
.us
.info
.ws
.biz
.cc
.tv
.in
.cn
.mobi
.name
I like .ws. If they were smart ( and this goes for all TLDs ) they would drop the price for the first year like has been done for .info.
I've been thinking a lot about buying a bunch of .cn names because if you go to a Chinese registrar you can get them for $0.47 each or less in bulk. Like I said, for parking it doesn't matter unless you are looking for type-in traffic.
I also like .cc but the fees are at least $20. Not bad if you just register a few, but if you buy many they are expensive. Some of the others may surprise you and I'm sure some will not agree like .TV and .mobi, but except for premium domains which I can't afford I don't like them much. You might want to visit places like dnjournal.com and see what domains are selling for high prices. That is the best indication of what people are placing value on currently.
