Hi,

I plan on developing an auction-type website, and I'm looking for a good memorable domain. There is a domain on sedo that I really like, but I'd have to pay $350. I regged bidozo (dot) com for free, and I'm wondering if you think this domain is memorable enough and worth using to save $350.

UPDATE: I regged BidSteal (dot) com. What are your thoughts??

Thanks!

Hmmm.

This domain just doesn't ring right for me, and numbers aren't so good either. But maybe someone else will feel differently.

If the project is big and important enough, perhaps the $350 would be money well spent, IF it's a decent generic and does at least fairly well in a Google exact-word search.

Numbers? There aren't any numbers in it :p

I also have BidWinz (dot) com. How does this one sound?

I think bidozo is a good domain, easy to pronounce, remember and it's short. I think these are all factors you need, it maybe doesn't sound that good but still, look at google, yahoo etc. these are all random name domains.

I meant the Google numbers.

I like BidWinz better; I'd be more likely to remember it. The "z" wouldn't pass the telephone test, though.

Maybe some others will jump in; I'm just one opinion.

Bidozo(dot)com is a solid name for development. I could walk away from my computer for a week, come back, and remember exactly how to pronounce and type this name.

BidWinz(dot)com -- absolutely not. IMHO substituting 'z' for and 's' in any domains except for absolutely top-keyword gems (Homez.com, for example) 100% zeros out the value (reseller & development) of the URL, creates an unprofessional air, and plants a bomb in the telephone-test module [I am personally struggling to sell my eRewardz(dot)com for even $5 reseller].

Even BidWins(dot)com is an awful domain in my belief. "Bid wins" is a nonsensical phrase fragment, like "keeps the doctor away" (from "an apple a day keeps the doctor away", a famous saying). HighBidWins.com makes much more sense. BidWin.com (short for "bid and win") works too. But BidWins(dot)com? Not unless you have no standards or self-respect.

If you're serious about the website, I'd pay the $350 if I were you.

I hesitate to jump in, because Josh knows his keywords and he likes your name.

On a strictly aesthetic level, I like Bidozo. It's an attractive name, and double O's have a good track record on the net. The Bid clearly implies what the site is about. It's unique, and not easily confused with another name. And "ozo" sounds cute and catchy, like in "bozo" or "ozone." Like Josh says, not an easy name to forget, either.

Use your $350 for development or promotion.

I've regged BidSteal (dot) com. How do you guys like it?? Think its memorable and good for my site?

Thanks :)

Bidozo is confusingly similar to existing auction site "bido". That similarity could weaken a UDRP defense. There's also a risk that the bozo rhyme could harm the image of a serious business, but that can be overcome with massive direct or viral marketing (examples: yahoo or twitter).

Bidsteal is better than bidozo because it has no obvious UDRP or rhyming handicaps. The phrase "bid steal" suggests an auction theme. It has low searched/published volume, which explains why it was available. Expect no natural traffic. This name requires development and/or marketing to create cash flow. Reg fee.

Since you're just about decided on the name...just curious what was the $350 name?

It was Bid Action (dot) com. It's definitely not worth $350, but it would have been perfect for the site I'm developing - a unique, intense auction experience.

Humm...
$350 for Bid Action (dot) com isn't bad price, I think.
I would pay in a heart beat IF I was looking for such domain.

Hmm I probably wouldn't go past $200 for BidAction.com but that's just me.

BidSteal's pretty good so no worries! :D
