What is your opinion on starting a site or buying a name with a hyphen in it? I'm just curious if i'm just using it as a business card basically and then using it to put it on search engines, etc. Would it be negative to use hyphen (-) ?

I think the hypen is generally considered a negative thing. Personally I wouldn't use a hyphenated domain name for my primary address unless it was a really killer name (like web-design.com or something). I do own a couple of hyphenated domain names, but only because I also own the non-hypenated versions.

Ofcourse, it's a mathematical operator - (minus), and it is used as symbol for negative nubers....:) ...no wonder everyone consider it negative..

Seriously, sometimes it is not such a bad thing, it makes name more readable and keywords in it more obvious, this has a point when keywords are good, ofcourse.

From a branding point of view, it sucks.

From an old school SEO point of view, it rocks.

There's nothing terribly wrong with hyphenated domains. Mole is right that the branding gets mucked. But that shouldn't discourage you from buying/developing them.

A hyphen looks like a minus sign... thus foreshadowing that a hyphen could be a negative... muahaha

10,000 - 14,000 visitors pr day to one of my hyphenated sites certainly agrees to that one.. ;)
