After the recent news of sportsbook.mobi I feel I must recant SOME of my statements. I am a domainer first and foremost and I like to do my research and check things out before I endevour into things. I lost $300k a few years ago in a business I shouldn't have started...it makes one more cautious to lose that much money. That being said...being overly cautious can be just as much a problem.

For every Titanic there is a Microsoft. Seems I missed the boat here.

So...I publically apoligize to all mobi enthusiasts for pissing them off so much the past 2 months. I still think my arguments and logic were very good but market forces are the true tell. The market has spoken. Will it last? I don't know. At this point I feel it's too late for me. I can't afford to drop $xx,xxx buying resale names and I am fairly sure all great names are taken. I am not the needle in the haystack kind of guy.

Anyways..thanks for reading. I was looking forward to an "I told you so" post at some point but instead I got the egg on my face.

phh.....gonna go stand in the corner now with my dunce cap on

I will wait to see if the sportsbook transaction is real and then I will accept, because I am convinced if it is false you will be back with a vengeance : )

Don't worry about it, Jesse. Personally, I think that some of the .mobi criticism is good, as it brings to light many important factors that we .mobi investors should consider. The only .mobi haters that I get annoyed with are the ones who are blindly anti-.mobi just for the sake of causing trouble. I think that your opposition to the extension did have some merit in that you made some valid points.

No hard feelings from me, glad to see you ease up on .mobi though! ;)

I forgive you. You're a good person. It takes alot of Balls to say something like that, and to admit your mistakes.

A couple respected members have confirmed the sale. Sportsbook.mobi imho is a domain that can be sold for $xxx, xxx to an end user especially if it's sportsbook.com which owns the .net and .tv. Mobile sportsbooking would be very valuable. As a Las Vegas resident I am very familiar with the term. It's pretty much the equivelant of Casino except it's sports betting. All Sport Betting parlors in the casinos here are called "sportbooks" usually in rather large letters too. Sports betting is BIG..$xxx,xxx is nothing to pay for that domain in the mobile arena.

I am 99% convinced it's a real sale. If it's not..I may have to recant my recant but doubtful it will happen. :)

Anyways...have fun mobi domaining my friends. Anyone have any suggestions for me to get some?

My forte is forums and I was considering going for some forum mobi names.

Why ... because of the recent Sportsbook.mobi information?

Personally, I think all of your posts were excellent ... and provided a necessary balance to all of the hype and hysteria, IMHO. There are still a TON of future wasteland .MOBI's being registered every day ... if you helped to slow down and/or prevent even one of these lousy registrations, I think it's worth it (and would save domainers money more times than not, in my view).

Plus, let's see exactly how the aforementioned transaction pans out ... perhaps there is "more to the story"? :| :talk:

No eggs, no corner ... and certainly, no dunce (critics alike will tell you this, I would hope after having read your posts)!
Thanks, and see you soon.

you are the man!

healthy criticism is well taken and lessons learned.

thanks.

on a side note: caution is great. i also lost 250k in 2001 in stocks due to these crook run companies........i became hero to zero overnight.

i learned that stocks can break me anytime again if i keep buying few stocks with all my money. so now i buy domains and if i own a garbage domain, all i can lose is $7, not all my savings......the risk is so widely divided in domains.

Hey Labrocca..

That was very nice of you. Its good to see this side of you.
Very sorry for the huge loss on your venture, it makes sense that you would be so careful and a little gun-shy on new ventures after a mess like that.

I would like to send you all the .mobi lists I have. I don't know if you will find something that appeals to you or not, but.. I am definately done buying and can not think of anything better to do with these lists, than to toss them your way.

I will get them together and Please PM me your email address. I will zip to send by wednesday.

Its not over till its over. ;)

That's big of you Labrocca. But you haven't missed the boat entirely, there are plenty of good after-market deals to be had if you buy smart, which I am sure you will do.

That's the truth, for every person trying to sell lottory for $20,000 there is someone selling decent names at discount reseller prices.

I agree that it could be worth $xxx, xxx to an end user it is an enormous market just want to see the validation before i believe it.

I am gonna spend a couple days trying to reg names. I will post what I get. I figure I will start with $200-$300 and I have a directi account so I only pay $8.50 per year ($16 per reg) so I can essentially get 12-18 names.

Wish me luck.

You are the man! Labrocca. I do respect you very much. Most of your comments on .mobi are valid and deserve all .mobi investors to pounder. There are always risks involved in any investment. Balanced views would keep our minds clear.

Thanks

HF.

There is nothing to aplogize for IMO. You made some great points and even opened my eyes. Keep your opinions coming, they are all extremely valuable to me. Thanks again for all of your insight. Many newbie domainers here can learn alot from you and the other vets here.

P.S. I'll be more than happy to sell you any of my .mobi domains for $150,000 each. JK :)

That's a very nice post Jeff. I definitely agree with that. I think that Jesse's post was probably premature and will likely just spur on lame registrations on an extension that has yet to properly prove itself.

One big sale doesn't necessarily mean the extension is good, that it will last or that that buy, at that price, wasn't because of the same hype we see in this forum every day.

And before y'all come in here calling me a ".mobi hater" or whatever other BS you come up with.....
There's 2 things I dislike about .mobi (and not just .mobi in particular, these are general concerns that could be relevant anywhere)

1) There are concerns that you as a group continuously failed to address, answer in a sensible manner or even acknowledge.
Will these come back to bite you in the ass? For the ones of you that have done their homework and know the answers to the questions and have thought every little detail through, it won't.
For others that consistantly act like the IDN crowd did when an outsider questioned their idea, then I'm sure it will. You're the ones that do virtually no research, expect everything to make thousands of dollars regardless of the market and you're the ones that will ultimately fail.

2) Hype.
Oh, yes, there's way too much hype. If there wasn't too much before, there certainly is know. Remember, and this isn't aimed just at .mobi either, ONE big sale doesn't make an extension. Even a hundred big sales doesn't make an extension.
You must balance out your thinking. It doesn't mean the extension (especially at this young age) is a success, it doesn't mean that sportingbooks.mobi will make $XXX,XXX or that buyflowers.mobi will make the same as flowers.mobi.
Use some caution when you're buying because one or a hundred big sales doesn't mean your name is worth that much or that you'll find the same deep-pocketed buyer as any other past sale.

For those of you that saw this post as a big "F*** YOU!" to .mobi then you can go ahead and flame me, prove my first point correct.

For those of you that see this post as informative and as something to take note of (especially the latter part of #2), then I wish you the best of luck with all your domains including .mobi. You're the ones that will succeed and will likely help .mobi to succeed too.

Jess,
As you know I to live in Vegas and was kind of on your side until I read about NV allowing phone betting on friday. By Staurday afternoon I had tried every name I could think of that fits our portfolio, ie..Gambling & Forums Sounds like you and I are in the same boat, same lake, same bait D-:
I did at the end of the day catch one .mobi and could not be more pleased with VegasBookie.mobie I figure if they are allowing this cell phone stuff then this would be a nice fit. Will it workout for us who knows but I said what the hey better to buy one then not and look back and be upset about cutting my line.
You should not have to say your sorry for your opinion and I will tell you why, its YOUR opinion, I never see people come on here and say that me and a hand full of users, like Badger, were correct about the sub domains. We did not believe in them and voiced our thoughts. At the end we said our part and they said theirs thats what makes this forum great, we all get to say what we feel as long as we are polite and friendly and I did not see anything you posted that would warrent your thread, all tho very nice to do for those who need the I told you so closeure.
Nice Job!
