Oops - A friend let his domain EXPIRE!

ok, so he forgets to pay to renew his domain upon notification from his registrar.

it expires.

it goes into redemption.

30 days pass.

where is, and what will happen to the domain NEXT?

NOTE: his registrar said he (the owner) can get it back during the 30 days its in redemption, BUT he let that date pass...

so, WHERE IS IT NOW? can he still get it somehow?
will it just DROP, or might it go to auction? what determines this?

assuming the domain is in PENDING DELETE stage

it ill drop > get picked up by snap > if a good term and valuable, be auctioned if there are back orders.

just do a whois on the domain, i do mine via a terminal (Linux) so i cant offer any suggestions on web sites etc to use BUT be careful before doing the whois on web sites as the query may be logged

Just check the whois.

the WHOIS still shows his contact info etc.

his registrar says it's in "redemption." - for NON-PAYMENT/RENEWAL (maybe past that now?)

his registrar says he can "get it back" if he pays a fee (99 pounds) + VAT (it's www.easyspace.com - UK)

what now?

my guess if he wants the domain he needs to pay his registrar what they are asking for

and, he better hurry, or who knows where it will end up.
