I found this one word domain (.com) that is 8 letters and has a clear meaning, but the word isn't exactly a commonly used word. Do you just register it just because its a one word or not?

If you think it can:

1) Make reg fee + profit parked
2) Resold for more than regfee
3) Profitable site/business if developed
4) Make you look cool

(Any number -> 1, 2, 3, and/or 4) + Not get you into an legal (trademark infringement) problems since you own(ed) it =

Go for it.

Let me guess... it ends in LY ?

If it doesn't make any sense (for a product or service) and it's simply a "word" think of the thousands that passed it up already with it being available.

In the end it's up to you as this is a business decision. :tu:

You can send me a PM. I won't reg or reveal.

Solution: Reg it at Dynadot, then tell us, if it stinks grace delete.

Not all 1-word domains are created equal but if it's a real word, it has to be worth the price you pay to reg it

register it:
1. if you can say it on the phone and other party will understand it.
2. if there's traffic.
3. good listing on archive.org
4. approximate the traffic like in statbrain.com or dnfame.com
5. if there's a pr.
if all of the above, then go for it, if half maybe think about it first and do more researches.

If even 2, it'd be worth a $10 gamble

prioritize anything to do with the traffic it receives.

JUST reg. it now - then reveal what it is, so we can share our input on the quality.

Worst case scenario, you lose your reg. fee to a poorly chosen name. BIG deal, $8!
I say it's much better to learn this way, then just pickup what people will tell you.

school of hard knocks

Actually, the worst case scenerio is a loss of 20 cents.

Someone already beat me to the .com, I waited to long. burnishes.com ...dot net avail.
So for the future, probably would've been worth the reg huh?

I wouldn't be too sad about losing it.

I'd say it has some value, if it was hand registered.
Not a lot, but some nonetheless.

it beats what a lot of newbies register.

The plural form of a fairly uncommon verb? It doesn't strike me as worth the reg fee in this case. You probably saved yourself some money by losing out.
