In the late 90's and early 2000's, I started buying domains. As I was in Real Estate, I purchased domains that were related to that field and some I still have. I then bought an "outlier," jamesdouglasmorrison.com which is the full legal name of the lead singer of the Doors. Jim died in 1971 (age 27) in Paris and was buried there. Fans came to visit and scrawled graffiti all over, including on nearby graves, as well as leaving all kinds of trash behind, (mostly empty liquor bottles) and the cemetery, (Per Lechaise) wanted Jim gone from there at the end of the 30 year lease. 30 years? Whatever happened to "Eternal rest"??? Lol.
Enter Ret. USN Admiral George Morrison (Jim's father) who went to Paris and negotiated a compromise so that his son could remain buried there. Security, I believe was included to cut down on the vandalism that had been occurring since he died and was buried there.
I purchased jamesdouglasmorrison.com with the intent to create a website that provided an online "page" where anyone could leave graffiti without damaging property in the process. Once filled, the page could be archived and a new one put up in its place. I never got around to creating the site as the technology did not exist back then as far as I knew. What I did know is that I wanted it to look like graffiti and not just be plain text.
Jim left everything to his common-law wife Pamela Courson, (who died a few years after Jim, also at age 27) and this started a court battle between the two families over his estate. They eventually settled and divided everything equally between the two families, IIRC. Right about this time I heard about "Cyber-squatting" and having no desire to become embroiled in that, I let the domain expire.
Years later, I found the name again and it was now offered for sale at 5K. I don't think it ever became a website but I could be wrong.
I find some online forums to be full of useful information (including this one) and I decided to give something back that someone might find interesting if only slightly informative.
