Looking through some old threads I noticed that so many of the major contributors to the .TV section from days gone by have now become watchers rather than participants.

Their experience being used to develop their own sites and businesses.

We know many of the famous names: MillersCrossing, TLDNetworks, MrRhee, RL, Antonis, SmashFactory, Hulls, Bulldog, SKG, Shocko etc. Even relative newcomers like MichaelDotcom have virtually stopped contributing.

These people have a wealth of experience that could be used to the benefit of all.

If anyone has been around for a while but hasn't contributed, could we get your view of where you think things are likely to be heading.

Without your input we are left listening only to a small group of experienced TVers, plus a lot of newbies, OR to the views of people who may not have the .TV or TV.com brands at heart.

Where's TV heading? If you've not posted for a while - Can we have your opinion.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.US domains.US domains
i am sure a few of them are either 1. not signed inn, 2. not being shown..

i know a couple of them doing some amazing developing, familes, children, juggling sites and etc...so many hours in the day it seems..

would be nice to see a few of the core people back and we all miss smash!

Cheers,

J

I have noticed that as well. I get a good education on Namepros.com and really it's about the only forum in anything I am on a regular basis.

Many still follow the forum but dont comment, either due to them falling out with others, getting sick of soo much nonsense last year or because they are busy developing and dont have much to say on domaining matters.

Plus everyonehas became very shy of late, they are happy to communicate & share but not on open forums for whatever reason (that bit goes for both on here & development.tv)

Out of those names you mentioned, i cannot imagine many coming back to contribute regular judging by the contact i or others have had with them.

WELL i did get a email from a namepros.tv member saying if i have nothing nice to say about dot tv on namepros will i please fxxx off.....i can take it no bother..

being in tv is a rollercoaster of ups and downs ...i had a few offers for some of my names one was from russia what would have taken me to top spot on dnj that week if i would have sold.....so i was not shocked when the sale of johns was from russia....

to date i have not seen any quality tv adverts with dot tv ...just pointins.tv..parks.tv and few others mainly in morning but nothing to get excited about, its simply not true that there are dot tv adverts on my tv after 6pm...but why do we see them in the morning?.

i was at a club opening in leeds at the weekend and when i asked why did you not get a dot tv name for your website he said "tv thats tuvalu its sinking"

well england is getting lower on one side and down the road from me its falling into the sea......still i could have smacked him

i do like uk geo like bathtv.tv and crewe.tv..and it would be nice this year to see some good sales on uk geo.

now ill fxxx off again

Hull's i'm glad to see your still getting some decent offers, shame i've not had any of late. :'(

Sorry to hear a NP member did Email you to be so rude, although we had a few run's in the past i think anyone talking to you like that is awful.

I personally dont see the same with UK TV Ad's but maybe it's different in each region since we do live in totally different regions.

I wouldn't expect too many major UK Geo sales too soon as most are owned by developers or owners who will only sell for very high Enduser prices, there has been decent offers of late.

Thank you for coming back and giving you view. Good or bad, at least you made the effort.

Such a shame that even though the majority of the names are still looking on a daily basis (or is it lurking now you've shown your cards), they are not conversing.

Personally, I can understand some people taking a hiatus. Some do have other things in their life and some others just want to take a break from responding.

It's just like anything thing else, looking for some new idea, input or concept. If you have nothing to say, you don't say anything. Regardless, I wish all the oldtimers well as they have enlightened me and helped me focus in my endeavors.

have a great day, one and all.

Many are still conversing but just not on the forum, doing it all through PM on here or the 'other' .tv forum (no shameless plug today)

We also need to remember that many of the people mentioned are putting in long, long hours running their current businesses, developing new businesses so posting on a forum is not a priority (especially for those who really like to take their time & make lenghty posts or also use another forum that take sup any free time)

I'm sure IF there was many really interesting posts regular then some would contribute but for those who are done with buying their .tv's & are not working on the next stage then there is not much happening in NP .tv world (has been the same for a long time now, part of the reason the members slipped away)

Sorry Ronnie, but I don't think I could disagree more. Yes, people are still using the PM system, but far more are simply lurking without any form of contribution. At best they are 'skimming, stealing and skipping'.

As for your comment about using another forum - what a load of tosh! - I think you're talking a bit too big about development.Tv. The facts speak for themselves, there are very rarely more than one or two people on the site at any one time and most of the conversation is by the same five people - and most of that duplicates (normally an hour or two later) what is seen here on Namepros. Rarely have I seen anything that surpasses stuff seen on Namepros - and that includes issues that are relevant to development. I think you would have been better putting that argument together for the Ahead forum or Allthings.TV

You yourself do exactly this. But it doesn't stop you posting. Are others really so different?
Many other members here run full-time operations, mysef included, but it doesn't stop them coming on Namepros and sharing their experience. I know people who run massive organisations but it doesn't stop them spending a great part of their day learning and sharing knowledge.

Also, the idea that people who 'sit' on Namepros for long periods without contributing are too busy to post amazes me. They are patently not too busy to lurk.

What you put into something should be equal to what you get out.

And how much more interesting a time can we see. Mny 'pure' domainers are bailing out due to the 'Bob' effect. Quality names are being sold for $50k plus figures. Sites are being developed and monetised, etc, etc.
It is exactly now that we need those who are supposedly committed to .Tv and TV.com to come forward and share their experience, views, and direction. Not slither in the shadows.

I have seen others here, including EQuity78, allude to the fact that there are many members who have publicly 'left' for some reason or other, but spend much of their day on Namepros. I think they were recently referred to as 'cowards'.

All I wanted to do was to appeal to these peoples better side in the hope they would wish to return from their shadowy world and play a gainful part of this forum. The idea that people just sit in the background, happy to take information, but pained to share what knowledge they themselves possess, really gets to my inner core - and I'm sure gets on other people's nerves too.

What I don't understand is why you feel you should defend these people. Perhaps you should try to encourage them back, not tell the world they are too important to share anything with us!

wow.... jimbo, ronnie, i like you 2 and are very active on the boards.

i am not going pick sides but imo there is nothing wrong with development.tv and i like the owners. if i knew how to design sites, codes and if i had my big project off the ground(hopefully later this year) i would contribute more. yes i spend most of my time here but my 09 goal is to slowly spend more time on development.tv but again i am not a coder and when i read about coding, it makes me want to grab a glass of wine and start drinking(even my webmasters knows how I feel and the complex coding terms) lol...

now onto james topic which i think is obvious... yes there are tons of people invesible and hiding on boards..thats pretty much a given. when rt.tv was announced and a big geo owner hardly is on the boards anymore, right away he does a post. no sign of him being shown up.

get ready for the .tv cruise party in the coming years and i will buy you 2 some drinks, lol..

Don't make an argument about things said here. I know and respect Ronnie very much, but feel a plug for a completely separate forum and a defence of those lurking in the shadows needed a reply.

Ronnie. I know you are bigger than this and I certainly don't mean to offend.

Personally, I think a couple of the old DOT TVers needs to focus 100% on their energy building their DOT TV business. The people who are gone are gone because

1) Some don't have a business model that can scale or produce profitability. Now that they have launched, they realize that more work is needed.

2) Some have sites that are launched and have very little traffic so they are scrambling trying to figure out why they launched a site full of videos and their traffic numbers have straight lined

3) Some are purely domainers who go where the money goes. They bought DOT TV. They had some sales. When they get more offers and think that DOT TV is relevant to their portfolio, they will return.

4) And some (two in particular) have assembled a top notch team and don't want to share because they have a kick butt site in development. These are real business people.

and some like to lurk in shadows. They don't want others to know that they are on Namepros 10 hours a day.

My take on posting is to give back what I have received on NamePros.com.
I am not saying that is the case with everybody but that is just me. I owe so much to this community with the help, advice, from others that I live to pass what I learned on to others.

Thanks, Jim

I said they are using the PM system on here or 'the other forum' IF you read it & trust me that is happening.
Exact quote: 'Many are still conversing but just not on the forum, doing it all through PM on here or the 'other' .tv forum'

Deveopment.tv is not as busy as we would like due to most members wanting to keep things private & talk via PM with others who are doing things similar to them (I'm sure George will back this up, maybe his words hold more power than mine)

IF you have an issue with development.tv or any of the threads there then me, bob & Michael will be happy to listen. Especially if you feel somebody there is copying work by others here which i think is nonsense anyway.

Not sure what i've said to 'talk too big' about development.tv but if thats how you feel then thats fine by me.
I've no idea what your talking about with 'and most of that duplicates (normally an hour or two later) what is seen here on Namepros.' but i'd be happy to agree with you if you can show me examples.
As far as i am concerned development.tv deals in a while different range of subjects than NP which is a domainers forum but thats just my view.

It seems the rest of your complaints about my posts is how you disagree on why others dont post here, i gave MY opinion from talking to them so dont get why you really needed to have such a go at it.

IF you have a problem with these people who sit on NP all day but dont post then i'd suggest asking them or naming them & stating your obvious annoyance.

I have contacted many of them & my last post tried to explain their reasons, simple as that.
Maybe rather than shooting the messenger then contact them or mention them by name on the forum?

Edit: Just noticed one last bit of Jimbo's 'enjoyable read'

Jimbo said:

I wouldn't say my post defended these people but rather tried to explain why they choose such actions as they obviously dont want to say so on forum.

And for encouraging them back, i done plenty in the 2nd half of last year to keep threads going & keep communications open with many of the old .tv'ers who had given up as i felt having a strong NP was important (You will maybe remember me & you spoke via PM about this very subject last year)

Anyway, why the hell should i be encouraging them back??
I'll leave that to the experts.

And where did i say anyone was too important to share on NP???

Jimbo said:

They last few comments really bug me Jimbo.
I'll say no more on this thread as i'm not one who like long drawn out arguements on threads.
