Sorry for the Rant but i have to get it of my chest!:

i have been a supporter of Firefox for a long time now, since it showed up on the surface of the browser world but i finally had it....not only FF is shelling out update over update in light speed(and i am not talking about 3.6.17 going to 3.6.18 or .19) they came up with V4...and V5 and in even shorter time after that with V6...and then V 7....and V 7 was updated without even asking...wtf??

But the most annoying thing for me right now is that with the 3.6 build my main bread winner website was just showing with no problems and after V4 i have all sorts of problems(4,5,6,7 actually)?? links are not working etc....i built a biz around my website and they decide to handle css differently without backward compatibility and i have to suffer???

And on top of it, the twitter feed on their support site is exploding with unhappy people....that's why i don't get any response to my question, asking support there....

way to go , firefox......

I maybe revert back to IE6, looks like this was a way more stable browser....:(

[Rant End]

Sticking with 3.6.x and so are many others for as long as possible.

As for Chrome - it's a good alternative, but comes with a tradeoff in privacy and usability (for those who use Flashblock, Adblock, etc Firefox extensions)...

On a related note, there's a conflict of interest - much of Firefox's development is influenced by Google, which in large part, funds Mozilla Foundation. Much of Firefox's loss is Google's gain - something to ponder.

Don't count out MSIE - it can be a good alternative to both Chrome and Firefox - sure it's a bit bloated, but MSIE has greatly improved; ver 9 is reportedly fantastic - key is run MSIE at highest security level and not visit dodgy sites with it; for those use Chrome or FF running in privacy mode.

I've experienced this myself. It seems browsers tend to become slower and slower with every new version.

Solved in Firefox 8.

A new version for every bug?

Actually, the toolbar add-on is annoying. I don't even bother with add-ons anymore because the ones I liked stopped working. Come to think of it I've stopped developing one thing and moved onto something else completely because the tool I used was broken....

Firefox and a short attention span are a bad combination

Yeah but as i seen there is 8.0 Beta2, long time until release. At least a month?
Beta3,Beta4,Beta5...

With standards changing with html, css, js, and anything else, browsers will become progressively a tad more bloated due to the need for cross-compatibility. I don't think they're "slower" though, it's a broad word to use.

I think this is an area FireFox does well in.

The issue Firefox is having is not just how it displays websites. There are also memory leak issues. Everytime they release a major version 1 of the things listed as being fixed are multiple memory leak issues. However they have a knack of introducing new ones everytime they release an update.

I did hear a report the other day (not tested myself however) that Steve Gibson left firefox on over night. Prior to leaving it, it was using the usual 100 meg or so of ram. When he came back to the PC in the morning with nobody having used it in the interim firefox was now using 2 gig of ram.

It is about time they learnt how to programme and to check their code.

I thought it was open source? Perhaps you should donate your expert eyes?

Try it yourself :),

So many times i've left firefox on overnight with anywhere between 1 and 100 tabs open, always to find them there in the morning with FF performing just fine. I'm not saying FF doesn't have memory leaks, absolutely it does. But I've put Opera, IE and FF through the paces when it comes to memory use and performance under high memory use (Using ridiculously large numbers of tabs). Absolutely FF has been the most reliable when put under pressure. I've had IE and Opera crash on me countless times.

But hey, was this thread about which browser is best? Nope...

This problem has been put down to plain old bad html coding. End of story. I think we should dump this thread now that it has been sorted, if you want to start another "Which browser is best?" thread, go right ahead, but I think we're done in here.

My 2c.

Well, if it would be just that simple Rhett :)

One file which controls the design part got messed up (was/is but we are in the middle of cleaning) for reasons i won't and can't disclose but it still makes me thinking about browsers in general..why don't they all act the same when it comes to code, why isn't there a warning for code errors like IE has...well, if FF >3.6 wouldn't have changed some of its way to handle code i never would have found out about the issue, right? :)

So, i am in peace again with it...

But i agree with you, i will ask a mod to close the thread :)

cheers
