Sorry for the Rant but i have to get it of my chest!:

i have been a supporter of Firefox for a long time now, since it showed up on the surface of the browser world but i finally had it....not only FF is shelling out update over update in light speed(and i am not talking about 3.6.17 going to 3.6.18 or .19) they came up with V4...and V5 and in even shorter time after that with V6...and then V 7....and V 7 was updated without even asking...wtf??

But the most annoying thing for me right now is that with the 3.6 build my main bread winner website was just showing with no problems and after V4 i have all sorts of problems(4,5,6,7 actually)?? links are not working etc....i built a biz around my website and they decide to handle css differently without backward compatibility and i have to suffer???

And on top of it, the twitter feed on their support site is exploding with unhappy people....that's why i don't get any response to my question, asking support there....

way to go , firefox......

I maybe revert back to IE6, looks like this was a way more stable browser....:(

[Rant End]

Why 6? Why not 8?

Or fix your site - just because you don't use it doesn't, unfortunately, mean others won't!

Most sites dropped support for IE6 ages ago - testing it with the "does it look ok" method.

it was all tested but as things progress(or not) other things come around....but what i don't like is A: i asked a couple days ago in the support forums @ FF for an explanation/thoughts about a fix but haven't got ANY response....now, one who is a developer or css guru( and during multiple testing myself i figured it is a css prob) could rid of the problem...but i am NOT a programmer/css guru and i don't have the funds to hire someone right now.....well you may say"this is your problem" but i just don't like the fact that MY site was working perfectly prior to the 3.6 branch of FF...if i wouldn't have gotten a mail from a user i wouldn't know that there is a problem anyway since FF decided to update A: automatically and B: handle css differently...is it my duty to check my site frequently? or is it the browser manufacturer to make sure there is backward compatibility to past standards......it is just like a graphic card manufacturer like intel(express 945) is not supporting windows 7, don't develop a driver for it even there are millions of intel integrated graphic still out there....LAME!!

Cheers

I feel and hear your pain. It's a tough world keeping websites up to date with everything.

I'm trying to get started with Drupal - so trying to keep track of what's Version 6 / Version 7 is hard enough BEFORE adding any weird Firefox quirks! It'll be interesting to see if it's a bug or just a weird personal build issue. If it's a bug I doubt you will be the last to report. Have you found a bug report that matches?

What's the site and problem?

Totally agree with you.

Toolbars and addons are also messed up with this auto updates.

I love Firefox but it's bordering on the unusable now. I'm moving over to Chrome even though I care for it.At least it works. I wish I knew what the heck they're thinking over at Firefox.

That's my main gripe - every time it updates some plugin I rely on disappears! :(

Solved in Firefox 8.

A new version for every bug?

Actually, the toolbar add-on is annoying. I don't even bother with add-ons anymore because the ones I liked stopped working. Come to think of it I've stopped developing one thing and moved onto something else completely because the tool I used was broken....

Firefox and a short attention span are a bad combination

I totally agree! I downloaded firefox 8 today and then deleted it and reinstalled 3. They still put out changes and updates for version 3 but no more updates to version 4.. 5.. 6.. or 7?

I've run alpha's and beta's for firefox ever since 3.0. I have never had any problems with the browser. I am running v8 right now. As for the suggestions of moving to Chrome  - if he's unhappy with Firefox's more frequent updates, why would he go to Chrome? They are on v16 right now (in dev).

What site are you referring to btw?

He would go to Chrome because Chrome is faster, that's a fact. I have had problems using some sites with Firefox, GAN, Bido, more. Chrome, no problem. Firefox used to be good, but it's become bloated and old.

You can simply search for any speed tests, Chrome wins:

http://techcrunch.com/2011/08/08/whats-the-fastest-web-browser-in-the-real-world-chrome/

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1610/1/

Check browser usage stats:

http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

January 2010
Firefox - 46.3 %
Chrome - 10.8 %

September 2011
Firefox - 39.7 %
Chrome - 30.5 %

This time next year, Chrome will probably surpass Firefox.

That wasn't my point, but okay. :/

They both have frequent updates, so that cancels each other out. Then go with faster, better and growing in popularity browser. I've been with Firefox for awhile now but am finally making the change, FF is just becoming a sucky browser, hence those browser usage stats.

Problems with Firefox include:

Youtube videos no longer play
Ghost tabs block the top of my window
It never closes without a force close
It often hangs or stalls
It doesn't always open when prompted from an email link
It freezes up
Most of the add-ons no longer work

So it's not a case of preferring Chrome, it's a case of preferring a browser that works.

update:

@ JB Lions, I forgot to mention that this also happens with chrome :(

I had a friend who looked into it briefly and he is telling me that my dom tree is corrupt(whatever that means lol)

It boils all down to the fact that my site's code has some issues with the closing tags he said...

Well, he has no time for the next couple days so i am stuck

You got me :)

I gave up on drupal a long time ago lol

And it looks like i am not the only one, 3 people reported the the same issue(this link explains my problem):

https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/883473

amazing, still no answer lol

I've run alpha's and beta's for firefox ever since 3.0. I have never had any problems with the browser. I am running v8 right now. As for the suggestions of moving to Chrome  - if he's unhappy with Firefox's more frequent updates, why would he go to Chrome? They are on v16 right now (in dev).

Eric, here is the explanation with links again:

https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/883473

and i agree with you Eric, i never had problems before (other then the memory hog issue but i could fix it)

and again, it's the same issue with chrome....

So it's not a case of preferring Chrome, it's a case of preferring a browser that works.

Ok guys, i am confused now....Firefox 8?

7.0.1 is the latest...unless mozilla yanked 8 from the download already ,lol

Anyway, this is it for now...need to do code cleanup(for coder not too difficult, for liquidcherry=noncoder....bah!) :)

Cheers

Your site works fine for me with FF 7.01 (take that back, it's broke on the first page)

Check this:

http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=h...(detect+automatically)&doctype=Inline&group=0

You got some end tags out of whack - actually your bad page has TWO <head> tags which is throwing it into error

Code:
        <head>

	<title>Rehearsal Dinner | Private Dining | Rehearsal Dinner Themes</title>
	<base href="http://www.rehearsaldinnerguide.com/" />
	<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />

	<head>

Joomla doesn't give me what I want.

Wordpress isn't close to what I want.

Drupal gives me an excellent base - once I get time to figure it out.

I have to agree with Eric here,

I've never had an issue with FF, and I've been using it since its 3.x days also. I feel honestly that only people who do not code correctly find that FireFox gives them trouble, as it should. Frankly FireFox is the only browser I've had that sticks to html and css guidelines even mildly closely - It's always brought out the best in me as a developer, if I see an issue, I fix it, most of the time to a validated standard. Some browsers may put up with lack of knowledge and effort on a web developers part - However I believe this is bad practice, and leads to lower coding standards on the web coders part, leading to more and more errors. If all html pages needed to be validated like any decent programming language, the world would be a better place.

In regards your page (If defaultuser has posted your page correctly), it is absolutely riddled with simple coding errors, simple errors that can be easily fixed (No offense intended, just demonstrating how a simple error will lead to all kinds of results). The W3 validator, along with FireFox are your best friends, become more familiar with them!

Just to state a couple simple examples, towards the top of your page:
- You've got two title tags.
- Two base tags.
- Two content-type tags, the second of which has not been closed, and also has open quotation marks - Any code needing to be assembled would come upon a syntax error right there.
- Two head tags (The second of which is in the description meta tags).
- By this point i see just about every tag has a double and there are many tags and quotations left open, simple mistakes.
I won't go any further, but the list goes on and on.

I always feel queezy about my sites being coded sloppily (Not to say that some of mine aren't ;)), I would check through your pages for errors and fix every one until the w3 validator is satisfied - This not only helps improve page load times and reduces "broken" looking pages in a browser, but it can actually help with your justification in search engine results. Not just that, you will feel confident your page will be displayed correctly in any browser.

FireFox has always displayed pages the way it should, it's had it's small memory leaks, but as a web browser it's an outstanding piece of software.

My 2c, for now.

Thx DU :)

Rhett, it was validating a while ago, something strange is going on but you guys pointed me in the right direction i believe, no programmer here but know a little bit and can try to fix...
