I have being meaning to completely get windows out of my life for a while today when ubuntu and windows had failed(windows was acting up for awhile) I ran pclinxos from a live cd so I installed it got mint and then wiped pclinuxos to make way for mint so I am now finally 100% no going back finished with windows.
I am getting a macbook pro for christmas so from christmas I will only be using mint and mac(hmm now I want m&m's) but for now just mint.
Just tought I would post this as well as the question is there anyone else who has given up windows completely lately?
UPDATE:As I said I had tried one pclinuxos after ubuntu then mint but for my needs I fell ubuntu will be the best me and java were having a fight but I am downloading ubuntu live dvd found it(tough it took awhile).I am going to go back to ubuntu because it has better software in the Add Program or whatever section.

I've tried Linux and couldn't cozy up to it.. using Windows 7 now and I like it compared to Vista in any case..

I moved from windows to linux years ago & then bought a macbook a few years ago. Buying a macbook was the best choice for me, all the benefits for *nix without the hassles.

All the time ive been using windows ive never had a serious problem that I couldn't fix, I refuse to use a mac, they are horrid for a various number of reasons and the price of them is a total rip off. Linux is nice but for ever day use windows suits me perfectly, and hey i get windows xp, vista and 7 free from my uni so all is good there :P

I have had serious problems with windows but none of them where beyond my fixing capability. The problem that made me decide not to use it was because I had this problem several times before,6 of those times including latest had no virus it was just a windows problem.

I made the switch to Linux about 2 years ago and was absolutely loving it until about 4 months ago. I decided to boot up windows one day to do something in Photoshop and haven't gone back to Linux since!

I really do love Linux more than windows, but there are still a handful of things I can only do with windows...Like Photoshop and Dreamweaver. I have tried alternatives in Linux such as Gimp and Bluefish along with running apps in Wine, but nothing seems to compare. Unfortunately I am one of those that absolutely refuse to go to a mac! I suppose if I ever decide to quit developing sites or they port my apps to Linux, I will go back - for the mean time, I am stuck back in windows...

Since I got into domaining there was one thing I have done that has made me more money than anything else - dropping everything microsoft for Mac. I have saved hundreds of hours and lessened my stress levels many factors over simply by saying bye bye to Gates' garbage.

You don't realize just how terrible MS products are until you give them up completely.

Macs cost more up front but if you put value to your time, you will make it back and then some!

Vista will drive anyone mad and I could not blame them. I personally like XP still and Windows 7 is cool. You should Windows 7 on a Mac though....whoah..I think Macs are cool and if you can get your hands on one play around with it. You will appreciate it's stability.

I'm running both, and can't imagine being without Windows.
1-There's so much great software that only runs on Windows, with no Mac equivalent.
2-Also, Mac and Firefox don't get along well, and crash or hang often. Same with Word.
3-Mac is like a cult, they always try to suck you into depending on their closed devices. No thanks, I like the freedom to choose.

Mac plusses include being able to choose the OS language out of the box, nice graphics, and getting to feel like one of the in-crowd while shopping at Mac stores.

And another biggy: very few viruses or malware target Macs. It's like having an STD vaccination, you can venture into any stinky hole on the internet and still come out clean.

Still, the software limitations, the arrogance and the cultish nuttiness of Mac mean I will keep both.

BTW, I use Dropbox to share files between them. Works beautifully.

My sentiments also.

Using Linux for 2 years+ now. Have windows as well, but only for uni. I boot into Windows once a week for about 2 hours. The rest of the time I use Linux.

From a development perspective, the only thing that Linux is missing is Photoshop. Gimp is OK, but doesn't do quite the same job (probably because theres not as many tutorials so I don't know GIMPs full potential). Running Linux also means that I can have (essentially) a mirror of my site running on my local machine for testing and coding - and its almost identical to the server set up.

As I said, I use Windows once a week for about 2 hours, and its already showing problems (like slowness). I've only ever had one problem with Linux, and it was only minor. Linux is continually speedy and reliable.

My old man uses Windows for email, surfing the net and doing quotes for his business. I spend more time maintaining his computer than my own, and it costs him $100's of dollars each year.

This is the difference between Windows and Linux. I don't have a lot of experience with MacOS so I can't comment on it.
