Hey, i asked around and i heard that if you re install windows it formats your harddrive..

would this work? (Since i am wanting to reformat my hardrive anyways)

But there is one thing. I have windows xp home edition installed, is it posible to reinstall xp but with the xp professional cd, like

i have home edition installed and i want to reformat my hd, so i put in xp professional cd and install,

a) would that delete windows xp home edition or replace it or sumthing like that?

b) Would it reformat my hard drive?

Installing XP won't reformat your drive unless you tell it to.

You can install XP pro on top of XP home. You will end up with Pro at the end of it all though.

You don't NEED to format it. If you pick a partition with a windows XP partition on it to install, it will bitch about installing it on an existing partition...blah blah blah...

yeah exactly.. all you do is get your harddrive, smash it against the wall, put it back in and install windows xp again.. something weird will happen :) try it yourself

I would dormat your hardrive through. Dont install windowns over another unless neccissary. Just backup everything you want on cd reformat and install your pc will work alot better after!

I agree with you there. I'd advocate doing an in-place install like this just to get the files you need off the disks.

Of course if you have EFS partitions you better have backed up your keys :)
