.info regs and auctions

I have a few going up for auction in a few days on Bido.com...we'll see how they do and Ill post results. I checked sales of .info domains on Bido, and they seem to sell well at the minimum ($28) to a few hundred dollars.

Here's the .info domains that are scheduled/have been voted "auction worthy":

HikingGuide.info
CoinMarket.info
ForexTeam.info
SleepMedications.info
NFLCards.info
RareGuns.info
LeaseSoftware.info
MegaSale.info

What I've done is build mini-sites through WhyPark or bigger sites through DevHub to monetize while I figure out which to keep and which to flip. Generic domains with relevant key words that (this seems to be the BIG qualifier) actually fit the "info" TLD seem to have instant value. I did sell about a dozen or so previously, and I've had a few interesting situations with Whypark.....for example, I own BearerBonds.info, which I paid less than a dollar for, set up on whypark, and the next day got one click that was worth twice the reg fee. I definitely have had better luck with the .info TLD than with the others excepting .com and .net.

I spent a little more time (devhub) with MarvelSuperHeroes.info, and plan to do the same with a few related .info domains, like Charizard.info, Chirography.info, & ForensicLab.info (barring a sale).

Any .info worth mentioning here that actually rank well for fairly a competitive keyword?

Yes, Germany.info ranks 7th on Page 1 for Germany, Austria.info ranks 2nd and 3rd on Page 1 for Austria, Wien.info ranks 2nd on Page 1 for Vienna and 1st and 2nd on Page 1 for Wien, and Vienna.info ranks 8th on Page 1 for Vienna.

You can get an .info to the top of Google but you need the best content, most backlinks, and professional SEO, the same can be done with any extension, it's a question of intent. Germans and Austrians like .info so these companies have put their Euros behind getting these sites to the top of Google.

In 2009, I saw two London buses queued behind eachother in Oxford Street, both with a full length advert for Vienna.info down the side. That sort of high exposure marketing costs a fortune but is indicative of what you need to spend to get any site in any extension on the first page of Google for a heavily competed for keyword.

By definition, .info domains provide information, usually this information is free so it doesn't provide the money for developers to spend on professional SEO, content writing, and marketing required to get a site to top of Google, it's not because it's a .info.

FYI:
I spend several months each year in Miami, Florida, and for at least 3 months during the end of 2009 Germany.info has been advertised extensively on the local Miami-Dade County PBS (Public Broadcast System) Radio station. I hear the radio Ad several times every morning between 8 am - 11 am and sometimes on the drive home, but I cannot comment on the extent of the afternoon Ads because I usually work until 8-9 pm so don't usually hear the radio Ads for the return home commute. Such volumes of radio ads that I have heard are not cheap, so some business professionals apparently estimate value in their ".info." extension.

I have registered a couple more infos and this raised a question:

I registered onthebutton.info on the button as in poker. When I search in google for this phrase

"on the button" I get 156,000,000 references. Is google screwing up or am I searching incorrectly?

I registered :

onthebutton.info
onadraw.info
SOLARUSE.INFO
POKERCHART.INFO
MIDDLEPAIR.INFO
BOTTOMPAIR.INFO

"On the button" can be used in a number of different ways.. perhaps more commonly as "He arrived right on the button".. Certainly the many hits for the phrase on Google mean you have a lot of competition for #1 ranking for the term. Ideally, you want a term that's searched for a lot, not necessarily one that has that many online references.

Thank you for the response Dave. So I guess I don't really understand what people mean when they say "I checked Google and see 200k for this domain" ? I was entering the phrase in search in quotes. Help this clueless rookie out. Is there additional services through Google, something in advanced search or other sites I should be checking to confirm the number of searches for a phrase or domain? I guess what I was doing was just getting the number of references for a phrase.

Thank you

The people who check Google in that respect are in error. As you suspect, they're merely getting the total number of times that keyword or phrase appear across the Net. As such, it's useful only to see how much competition you're up against.. ideally, you want a relatively low number of Google "hits" and a high number of actual searches per month for the term.

One thing you can do is search Google Trends, such as:

Google Trends: best las vegas hotel

another:

The Free Keyword Tool from WordStream

Either might give you a general idea (for free)..
