dax44 said:you can't lose much that is correct but now that name is only yours for 1 year. so unless you sell it or develop it in the next 12 months you will have to pay another $8 or it is money wasted, even if it is only $1.19.
then maybe the next year you cancel and then you have lost $9.19.
anyway i hope any newbs out there read this. And just so you don't think i am any better - i registered many thousands of .info domains .. so i know what it feels like to waste some money. yes i got to keep some good ones - but the same money invested in a handful of good auction buys (maybe even a .com!) would have been far more profitable.
when you register new domains (which almost always start with a low initial value) the renewals are very significant and so this type of domain has to be flipped quickly or developed, unless you are very sure it is one to keep for , say , 5 years minimum ($40?)
why 5 years? well i think any .com with a decent value was probably registered at least 7 or 8 years ago. i even have some cc.net domains from 10 years ago - they are still only worth $1000 or so. which is OK - but that was the goldrush back then remember. so will pqrs.info be worth $1000 in 10 years .. hmmm not sure about that.
i think there are very very few potentially valuable unregistered names - in any extension. and the ones that are i think are end-user - ie. not following any pattern - so in other words: pot luck. eg. t30.info is available - maybe someone maufactures a T30 and pays you $5000 for the name. then again maybe not. i have far too many 'fingers crossed' domains.
there is one way to pick up names reasonably cheaply and of higher quality - domain drops. i have been tracking .info drops for 2 years. each day about 10-20% of the drops are snapped up. many of them look very nice - most of them will be worthless. none of them have a guranteed value - well apart from the following exceptions:
in the last 2 years i have watched pool.com catch the best .info drops almost without fail - and apart from the occasional premium keyword (which they always get) do you know the only other dropping .info domains which are backordered through pool? lll.info. generally there are 6 or 7 bidders for each one. so would i swap 1000 .info 'finds' for 5 lll.info domains? in a flash. and then keep them/develop them.
