Hey everyone

I thought it would be better to start a new thread for all to read.

Those that are involved in the auction this week please us posted on the .tv prices, both for the live and silent auction. We're all dying to hear what happens now and I believe official results take weeks to report.

Or if anyone has a link of the updates in another thread/forum, please post here.

Thanks everyone!

A good idea starting a new thread dcmike.

In the live Auction that starts at 3.00pm, stockmarket.tv is number 177 out of 218.

Apparently there will be a Live Auction Broadcast on:
http://www.webmasterradio.fm/
and I have sent an email to them to verify this. Will let the forum know when they reply.

Of great interest in the live Auction, (apart from stockmarket.tv of course!) will be #'s 155,156,157 which are Blogging.com; Auction.com; and Bald.com respectively.

The live Auction list can be seen at:
http://marketplacepro.moniker.com/auction/detail.html

ok

I have just had it confirmed by

http://www.webmasterradio.fm/

that the Live Auction "will show tomorrow, 3pm" (their words)!

1 / I am at TRAFFIC. My take is that this is *not* the break out conference for .tv. I think it is still early and we are at least a couple of conferences away for this crowd.

2/ What I am seeing is still skepticism at the official level but some interest at the individual level.

What do I mean?

.tv was mentioned twice in the panel discussions.

1. Shawn Colo (Demand Media) mentioned briefly that they were making a big bet on .tv. He was asked in the Q&A session about the uncertainty of pricing and he answered a different question altogether (why is pricing on premiums so random is what he answered and blamed Applied Semantics for setting the pricing back in the day). I don't know if he did not understand the question, but I am a bit skeptical. He lost a great opportunity to make a strong case on that point.

2. Tim Schumacher (CEO, Sedo) gave his same Buy/Hold/Sell slide by tld and still had .tv in the "Sell" bucket with .biz, .ws. and .cc. He spoke a bit about .tv on the slide and it was clear he was a bit uncertain about his perspective on .tv in a way that he was not on .ws and .cc and .biz. His closing lines were "I could be wrong about all this" and it was clear he was addressing .tv with that line

When I speak to people individually and explain what I am up to in .tv, I am getting a lot of curiosity. People's first reaction is usually: "nice extension, but isn't it the place where they can change all the pricing on you." When I give a little more context on what has actually happened and how it can be managed, the response is usually one of interest. Some then admit that they have "1 or 2" .tv names (usually non premiums).

So, overall, I would classify this as being the conference where .tv is entering the "let me learn more about this" area which is still a long way from "I am going to spend big bucks to buy your .tv names that have no traffic."

I am not particularly a reseller anyway so I am not even trying, but I don't think the demand is there from this crowd in a meaningful way yet.

My sense is that: a) unless .tv starts picking up traffic or b) shows a lot of resale potential, it still remains more of an end-user rather than domaineer extension.

That is my 2 cents

Great input there, appreciate your feedback. I really push the .TV in our registration page and created .TV version to show it as demo for social networking sites.

Frankly, they don't know .TV despite showing these .TV examples ... Well we continue to push them. That's one way to reach the public.

I owned some premium and Yes premium pricing is sucks!

Thanks for the inside scoop from NY. Excellent reporting โ€“ almost feel like Iโ€™m there and not an ocean apart. Not suprising about the official TV view there โ€“ most of those players have a HUGE interest in the .com status quo. And since theyโ€™re trying to court Wall Street as well as Madison Avenue theyโ€™re even more likely to stick with the script. CarryOn

I belive this to...Where the TRAFFIC location is held can make some diffrence. Imagine if it was in Hollywood or Los Angeles. I bet you Direct Media would hold a "coming out" party and invite top people in hollywood and pitch beyond belief the .tv extension......Maybe someone should suggest this as a place to Monte

Thanks a bunch antonis for your candid insight. Hopefully you can share with us the final bids on some of the .tvs while your there as well. Thanks again!

What shocks and disappoints me most is that demand media isn't trying to "introduce" me.tv at a highly visible show like this. You would think with them launching the product in May that there would be a much larger effort to get the word out other then PR releases. For heaven's sake, hire the lot of us in this forum to go spread the word in events like that and watch what happens.

Perhaps there's a conflict of interest with Moniker involved in the show?

i know this is not .tv, but scotland.com just went and did not meet reserve, but there was a bid at $3M. Should bring a smile to the face to our fellow member who has scotland.tv.

seniors.com $1.8M SOLD

creditcheck.com + freecreditcheck.com for $3M. (less than 7x revenue). good buy

Slots.com. does not meet reserve at $4m

Grandmothers.com for $27K sold. not very high, but I guess it does not monetize

thanx Antoni.
I m interested in the tv part and i m not so happy
for Demand Media tv push. They are keeping the
same attitude in Moniker auction as they did before that.

Pricing is a big problem we must overcome, but we cant have
everything as we want to.

ps: pure type in traffic is unlikely to come for the next 5 yrs

Thanks antonis12 for the updates!

Pricing is a huge problem as you guys metioned. People buying .TVs don't know if the domain is regarded as 'premium' or not, they will think 100x before investing in .TVs when they know that some of them go with a YEARLY renewal fee of $100,000...Demand Media has to do something about it, they have to open up the doors to people who want to check for a domain if it is a premium or not, how much the yearly fee is, and they have to explain to end users the idea behind premium pricing. Until that happens, I can't see a really big hit on domain resale prices. As time passes by, more and more people will be hurt by those unexpected yearly fees, and people talk, thats the last thing we need right now..

There is no way that end users(average) will understand and accept premium pricing and
possible changes that they might get.

true most won't accept it, but they don't need to, we just need to have premium pricing more transparent instead of having a question mark regarding a .tv....with time, expect more people to ask on this forum the yearly fee of a registered premium .tv
