Was watching the news about this today.

Although it's worrying that N. Korea is doing this, I find it hypocritical that Gordon Brown is saying Korea shouldnt have any nuclear weapons when he has just commissioned new nuclear Trident weapons at the cost of ยฃ76,000,000,000, to be dumped in Scotland, who's government are opposed to having nuclear weapons at all!

Since I live just a little bit south of Los Angeles it sucks.

North Korea would bomb LA on the West Coast, which means I would be a crispy critter. D-:

That's like saying I'd be a hypocrite to condemn a gang-rape if I once had sex with a girl who drank too much.

I live in Western Japan, the closest target to NK outside Korea, and one they would be happy to bomb. The hostility even in South Korea towards Japan is borderline nutty as well - thanks to decades of "education," it's far worse now than it was 20 years ago.

The UK is a democracy of sorts, and a normal country. NK is nightmarish regime run by apparent psychopaths. Look it up. The stuff they do is blood-curdling.

I have friends and family here whose fates are currently in the hands of a psycho. Gordon Brown has nothing to do with it. If he hands a couple nukes to extremist groups in the UK, then we'll be on more equal turf.

How can you even equate the two countries??

I would say just leave them alone. Don't keep on disturbing the sleeping snakes. There are too many troubles already going on for a planet to handle. This is one more. :'(

I was a little surprised they didn't move the Doomsday Clock a minute or so closer to midnight 8-X but it's already 5 minutes till midnight so I guess there's not much room to play with.

Very Scary Stuff to think about.

Makes me wish we had bought that "silo" or the 280 wooded acres in Nova
Scotia.

NK is no problem .... it's China that looms of doomsday. :alien:

With the citizen armed force they are a billion man army. They could line up
and march at us and we would run out of bullets before they exhausted their
militias. :td:

Lets just all go to Mellow's place for 5 or 10 years. Takes some sun block and
party lick it's 1999 ......

I understand and agree. The problem is, IMHO, is that our
commander in chief may hesitate and use moderate forces.
Not to get political but Obama strikes me as a lil timed.
I'm not sure he'll take "that" big step first.

But I'm in your corner. Goooooo Airforce! :talk: I know we can.
I just hope we do. (if need be) A desperate nation for sure.

P.S.
I did'nt really think they would single file and march in cadence.
Was a figure of speach .... but a hell of a visual.

We'll most likely just toss a gazillion bucks at em to appease them

Do Not Underestimate your Command in Chief! A Democratic Tactic will strike Harder! I assure you if Obama was a man who would hesitate, he would not be in Command Now!

Democrat or not, Command in Chief will Strike!

Guys, I'm in the front lines for China as well, but China has an essentially rational government (in fact, more rational than the one currently in Washington DC). In the future, things can always change - but right now there is one lunatic in the neighborhood presenting a serious threat.

Two facts:
Aside from a history of sneaking on shore in Japan to kidnap Japanese schoolgirls for their dear leader, here's something that was reported to me by a friend in China:

The Chinese allow NK refugees in China to be rounded up by NK goon squads. My friend saw one truckload of men, women and children being returned in the back of a truck. The goons had taken wire, and run it through the cheek of one person (including the kids), out the other cheek, and then through the cheek of the next prisoner, and so on. This was the way they were all kept together, with one wire run through all their cheeks.

This was stopped by, of all people, some Chinese security police who demanded that the wires be removed.

Imagine human rights so violated that even the Chinese felt obliged to protest it.

Of course, whatever happened to them once they returned to NK was doubtlessly worse than anything on that truck.

And now these same darlings have nukes.

I'd agree with that, good post. I don't like Gordon Brown, however Scotland are part of the United Kingdom no matter if they have a parliament or not (Scottish passports and drivers licenses still say United Kingdom on them, etc). Hence it's not like he's "dumped" the nukes on Scotland, in my humble opinion :) We're still all one country (for the next year at least)

It's a difficult one though; but I also think that if Scotland were to get independent, if a war was to break out they'd be jumping for the rest of the UK to protect them?

Either way, this situation doesn't seem good - although at the very least, Russia and China have stopped publically defending North Korea now. I'm not saying that war is the only solution (makes me uneasy just thinking about it), although it certainly makes it easier since a year ago Russia and China seemed to be saying "Don't attack them or else".
