Don't have time or effort needed to make money at this game.

I may pop back to the Dev section because there is some useful stuff in there.

I've been turned off by the overall lack of intent shown. I guess I have learned what "domaining" is - it's monetizing with least effort. Between that and the underhanded sleaziness of the industry top down from VRSN to GoDaddy/Dynadot/Name I'm just not interested.

I was never going to make this a career...thought it would be fun and its left me disappointed.

That said - many of the people here are great commenters and helpers and I do wish you all the best of luck.

The ones making all the money are those with the "premium" domains which they dug up years ago. Newbies (today) often find it hard because there are very few or maybe none premium domains left.

You need to enter with a huge chunk of cash to buy your way up, but this is not what I would do. The economy could be in for a second round of turmoil and in such times, big investments on virtual property and virtual money are just not warranted.

I agree there is a lot of sleaziness in the domain industry. Humans tend to get sleazy when money seems to drop from the sky without any effort, lol.

I didn't understand your statement above. I see tons of intent here, but maybe no all is very positive. Perhaps that is what you meant? If so, I would agree. There is a lot of ego and too much focus on making money without a real understanding of how business works or should work.

But there is no reason why you can't have fun at domaing, depending on how you define "fun". Domains can be a nice way to invest for the future if you develop a knack for finding things that will become more valuable. And a domain is one investment that you can use while you are waiting for it to increase in value, and you have the ability to make it more valuable by developing or promoting it.

I'm having a hard time leaving. I think I'm just going to reduce time. No more random comments. I should probaby delete this thread given how successful I've been at going.

I'm disillusioned by the whole domain market. How drop-catch works, how auctions work, how discussions are more frequently about "conning users into visiting and hitting ads" than about building something interesting. I guess those are the domainers.

How sites charge for things and then don't refund properly (it's in the TOS) how they sell something and take it back (me and tv) - how nothing ever quite drops and stays parked through the entire redemption period to get picked up by partners.

I hate how everything turns into a TM discussion even when it seems to be fair use.. (ok with it otherwise)... hate how the registries hold TMs to ransom and then offload them onto some poor sucker who doesn't know better (see Porsche.me)

I hate how people abuse Grace Delete and domain tasting. I hate seeing people spend $200+ on something of no value when they have no experience. I hate experienced people selling them for $200 (it's a quad! What's that? Means a bargain you shouldn't walk away from!)

I simply DONT and CANT trust those in charge of the maintenance of domains leasing them out. THAT makes it hard to really enjoy it.... if only I could ignore it

You can complain about stuff and give up, or... you could try to help make some changes. How would you like me to give you my domain, DomainerComplainer.net? You can set up a blog and bitch about all the crap that's wrong with domaining... as long as it's all true and documented and you don't make any personal attacks on any one person.

More the first half than the latter - unfortunately. In part I'm trying to move away from trolling on np to actually DOING something. I have domains and ideas and I'm not even parking them!

I have a couple of blogs already that I should use for this. I appreciate the offer... it's a great name but not for one person to do. If you turned it into a "contributors" blog I'd be happy to make a post.

I just bought some .TVs have a couple of decent .MEs so I'm sticking around in those forums... and looking to spend LESS time here and MORE time being something other than what I complain about.

Yes, it's easy to have many domains and be so caught up in finding more that you don't do anything with the ones you have, until you need to renew them again. For parking, I recommend TrafficZ if your domains don't get much traffic.

I have the .com and .org for DomainerComplainer. My idea was to turn the .org into a forum, but that takes time. The offer still stands, otherwise I may try to find someone else who is worthy.

Now I'm one of those people fixated on .coms so that is almost all I am buying. It has to have sales potential, but it has to earn something while parked. Honestly. I don't think the MEs are worth much (2 Dictionary Verb (one is also an area of Boston) and Saying... less are my 3 letter vanity domains that I'm using for professional email).I had an offer for $50 on one but that was someone who was a multi domainer looking for a cheap pickup The problem is that one of the MEs is best as an "adult" domain and I have no idea how to get into that area at all.. lol

The TV market is interesting. Just got some real keyword ex-premium domains for reg fee that I think fit the domain really well. I just need to focus on developing them while they still have residual "premium parking" status.

That and I have my blog which gets the most traffic though I don't update it nearly enough... less than once a fortnight... but I have friends

Domaining is not exactly effortless. That is where you go wrong. You need a lot of knowledge and experience to overcome the problems you stated above. And yes you need to start with a bit of money these days to get somewhere in the industry...

I do sympathise with you .. it's a very strange business .. it is addictive and exhausting, exciting and disappointing and much more - but you cannot really expect to make money/be successful unless you DO have "time and effort" in any occupation, can you? Not legally/ethically anyway.

For sure without money to invest there is only one way to grow and that's slowly and steadily. Same in any business. Except gambling/lottery.
