I have a lot of domains that I've had for many years. I thought I would sell them myself so I put one of them up for sale. The forums won't let me post links, but it can be found here:

flippa dot com/6392599-soselectrical-com

Please tell me what you think about my sales effort (not the domain itself). If it's bad, then tell me why and what can be done to improve it. Be honest and don't sugar-coat anything. I'm not planning to get into domaining as a new career, however I also don't want to be letting my domains go for only $1.

Your sales page is fine, but not the kind of domain I'd sell on Flippa. Have you researched and reached out to end users already? I think you are going to be disappointed with the result of an auction.

Good luck.

Thanks for the input everyone.

@inforg - can you explain what kind of domain you'd sell on flippa. Perhaps I'm going about things wrong and should seek out a broker instead. And when you ask about reaching out to end users, are you referring to contacting businesses with similar names and sending them the link to my flippa auction so they can bid for it?

I'm new to all this and have spent the past three or four weekends watching and rematching interviews on domainsherpa trying to learn the best way to sell my domains. So much stuff to know...

I agree that this domain may struggle at flippa as it's not a great domain with wide appeal.

If i was you then i'd try email owners of the .net domain & ask if they would want it.
I'd also try contact: www.soselectricalcontractors.com & www.soselectricalandsigns.com/ to see if they would be interested.

If you set a reasonable price, you may be able to sell it.

Flippa seems to be heavy on developers and resellers. The kind of name you have is very specific and just not that valuable to the demographic at Flippa. As a domainer, I can pick this type of domain up all over the place for low to mid XX - I don't imagine you'd get more there and you will pay a big chunk of that to Flippa. Most buyers there are going to assume you already struck out with end users, so why bother.

You should have already tried to reach out to sell to the end users before you put it on auction. They are the ones most likely to pay the most for it. You can try emailing them now, but even if they are interested they are probably going to get it cheaper than you could have asked for.

Forget about brokers. No decent broker is going to spend their time on a mid XXX type of name. If they wanted to hustle low end stuff, they'd buy names themselves. They want big dollar deals - they work on commission.

Just an update for anyone interested. I reached out to 14 businesses that had the same company name and/or similar domain name as the domain I'm selling. I called several of them and they weren't interested. I also emailed them and got no responses. So it looks like my entry into domain sales will be very unexciting as the bid still sits at $1 and the listing has been viewed less than 100 times. Dunno what steps I can take at this point to get a decent sale out of it. Chalk it up to a lesson in domaining, I guess. :-$
