Newest addition to the/my Family...

His name is Cash, he's a Blue and Gold Macaw. I am told that he's just over a year old.

My Wife received him as a birthday present from her Father, now we just gotta find him a large enough cage. He spends most of his time on his perch, seems to like it there more or less. Hopefuly it won't take too long before he is roaming and pooping around the house, this should be fun...

Anyone else own/have a Parrot?

He doesn't talk much yet, trying to teach him to say a few of my Domains lol figured he'd make a good/bad spokesman...

The funny thing is that most presents my Wife has received from her parents require us to spend $XXX just to keep the gifts, this is certainly not something I would go out and buy nor afford too, Hamsters and Fish are more my budget lol

I bought him a cage last night, I couldnt afford a new one the size I wanted so I went used, 4x3.5x3 (feet), plenty of room for him to move around and climb ( plus makes for a great "time out" cage for the kiddies when they are acting up lol )

Once I get it all fixed/setup I will post some pics.

Beautiful !!!!!! I thought these guys are illegal to sell. Well costly to keep them, just like discus fish when it comes to Aquarium fish.

We did the salt water aquarium thing like about 2 years ago, another gift to my wife from her parents. We had it for about 1 year, woke one morning to a small flood and said the heck with that... the tank was huge and the upkeep was starting to get to me. I wasnt really into it much anyways.

I havnt picked up/carried Cash myself yet, he is still a bit shy/scared a little too, my wife mind you has a few times and once you have him in your arms he is fine. He doesnt like having fingers pointed at him, then again who does lol

He has went to bite us a few times but he never really bit, his way of telling us to back off I guess. Mind you, you can go face to face ( nose to beak ) with him and he wont do a thing. The way Im thinking is perhaps he wasnt handled well in the past thus will take some time for him to loosen up and to willingly come to us without a fight.

The other morning I could have sworn he said " Hello ", it certainly wasnt his usual squak. He's also saying " ah-oh " now. Ive been saying this everytime he drops something, looks like hes picking up on it. He also says " Ma-Ma " more or less when the wife isnt around, does that make me " Da-Da " lol

He is closer to my wife, I guess its the holding part that made them bond quicker, Im still too chicken to hold him, read some nasty things about what they can do if they really bite hard lol Plus hes not ready to come to me and I dont want to force myself on him, hes the boss, when the time is right Im sure he'll let me know.

Truly a very nice looking bird.......one question though since his name is "cash" have you played some Johnny Cash songs? perhaps that may be what he was named from? Just an idea lol........first thing that came into my mind upon reading this thread......congrats on the beautiful bird!
