Dear Friends,

(Hello. This is my first post to NamePros. Please excuse me if I made any mistake.) I would like to have your expert opinion to help me select a domain for my website.

My website is going to be about technical tutorials/stuff and later I also plan to release an ebook. It's very focused on an important technical topic. The best domain possible is composed to 2 words. Let's say WordA and WordB. Google keyword tool reports global 550,000 searches for "WordA WordB" and "WordA-WordB" per month. Here is the situation:

1. WordAWordB.com and .net are already booked and being sold for horrible amount on godaddy. .org is registered but no website. I managed to register "WordAWordB.in" domain.
2. "WordA-WordB.com" (with hyphen) is on sale on godaddy for around $250. WordA-WordB.net is available for registration.
3. Just to add, I managed to register "WordAWordC.com". WordC is related to WordB in technical terms. But, "WordA WordC" has global monthly search of around 15,000.

I cannont buy WordAWordB.com or .net as they are very expensive. Should I buy WordA-WordB.com and also register .net version. Or, should I use "WordAWordB.in" to build my website? I wonder if hyphens are good in my case. I am confused.

Please help me and give your expert opinions. Sorry for the long text.

Thank You.
Best Regards.

Sounds confusing. Without knowing how big your keywords A & B are and possible alternative keywords, this is what I would probably do:
I would develop WordAWordC.com for a global market & WordAWordB.in for your local market.

Agree. If I may add, develop one at a time. Start with the global, then only local market unless of course you have a bunch of team helping you.

Use 99 coupon to register the hyphen and the wordawordc etc.

Then come back with real words and people can offer more help.

Or

Post in wanted domains and see if people have anything that works.

Id rather wordawordc than hyphen in general assuming c isnt totally weak.

Dear All,
Thanks for your advice.
I will register and tell the actual words.

My target audience is global (as its core technical website). I was wondering if I should redirect wordAwordB "in" to wordA-wordB "net" website. What do you suggest? I know com is king but I dont have funds to buy it.

How about the opposite wordBwordAs (not AB but BA and plural)? It has global monthly search of 40000.

(I understand it is difficult to suggest without knowing the actual keywords, but I have a bad experience of posting actual domain on another forum. I'm sorry guys but I am sure you understand).

There is a great volume of junk listed all over the place at large amounts. You may not have any success, and without seeing the actual words it's impossible to judge, but I don't see any harm in deciding a price you are comfortable with*, finding the contact email for the .com from whois and emailing them with your offer.

*a small multiple of reg fee will probably not be of interest to anyone not already planning to drop the name

If you're planning on developing the site, read up on SEO techniques. It gets complex, but it pays off. Choosing your domain is very important, but there are domains completely irreverent that get enormous amounts of traffic because of advanced Search Engine Optimization strategies. Would you ever type in "Google" or "Yahoo" and expect to go to a search engine? Would you ever type in "Craigslist" and expect it to be a classifieds site? What about "Twitter," and the list goes on.

Whatever you choose, be sure it's easy to remember... Make sure it's "brandable," if it's not briefly describing what the site's about.

You want to get users, yes. Your domain is important, but your primary audience isn't going to come from type in traffic. Be sure the title on your site is appropriate, and you specify accurate keywords without keyword stuffing. The content is one of the most important things, so be sure you don't develop the site with a bunch of images describing the site, the search engine crawls the text, it doesn't read what's typed up in Photoshop.

Basically, you don't "need" an amazing domain, but a short and easy to remember name does help a lot.

For an example, 27bslash6 is the guy's site who made that entertaining "paying with a spider drawing" email, where he hosts his other content and check out his stats.

Without knowing what keywords you're aiming to get for your domain, unfortunately we'll be of little help.

Dear All,
Thanks for your suggestions.

DomainIdiot: Thanks for the advice. I understand that brand-name is important. I am currently going by the exact keyword in domain so that it is easy to remember. I also learned here that dot com is the way to go. I though of a suffix "center". wordAwordBcenter dot com is available. The entire domain becomes around 20 to 21 words long. Its easy to remember, but do you feel its tooo long? Or will it do if the content is good? I hope to come with a brand name but then think that its worth to have a domain which contains the keywords themselves.

Thanks.
PS: your signature is cool :)

This is confusing. You posting the same content in two threads. The Mods should combine these two threads.

It's very difficult to give you much more advice without knowing what WordA & WordB actually are and what the content of the website will be. You should PM somebody with this information if you want any better advice.

Dear Stub,
Thanks for the reply. And sorry. Yes, I ended up posting same content on two threads. I request the moderators to merge them into one if possible.
Is is safe to PM the actual words? I know it bring more help to me but ...
Thanks.
