Newbie Knowledge - Correct Me

Hello all

I learn lot of domain's sites and articles and here what I focus for an hypothetic domain buy :

- .com is a priority to start
- Focus it on a good niche
- See auctions website to compare what's actually selling
- Evaluate it on a website (I like Estibot)
- Old Website is good
- Lower length possible
- Prefer only letters or only characters
- Sound great
- Can interest someone

What I don't understand :

- What other important metrics to evaluate a domain ?
- How to monetize click (only park ?)
- Can I add ad on a website or is it useless ?
- How generate traffic on a basic website ?
- Is Estibot valuation is great and can I trust it ?

You can also use affiliate programs if it is a good fit. Sometimes redirecting a domain to an affiliate link can be more profitable than parking, and usually allows you to market and send traffic to your domain. It's uncool with many parking companies to advertise a parked domain.

- Can I add ad on a website or is it useless ?

Of course you can. Many domainers put small sites on their domains. The advantage is that you can get your pages ranked in Google and do other things like promote multiple affiliate products or start your own email list of visitors to your site. If you have the time and talents to do so, development can be rewarding.

- How generate traffic on a basic website ?

Pay to advertise, exchange links with other websites, get ranked well in Google (SEO)

- Is Estibot valuation is great and can I trust it ?

Estibot gets a lot of hate around here, not all of it is deserved. No, you can't rely on the prices. It is still a useful tool sometimes for identifying premium names. I used to filter large lists through Estibot in order to identify potential gems. I still use it on occasion to see if names have any value. If Estibot says $0 USD, that information is useful enough for me to think twice before registering a stinker.

using estibot is different for folks like @RJ, than it is for a newbie


an experienced domainer who was in the game before the bot, knows what the bot is

while the inexperienced who don't know, won't know, until after they've registered a bunch of unsellables

imo...
