New templates and template selector on NameDrive

Hello everyone,

As you no doubt have seen in our advent calendar, we have recently announced the launch of Template Tuesday.

Template Tuesday will see us launching a new template every Tuesday for the foreseeable future. So far in December, we have launched Kartell and News with several more to come.

In addition, with the release of more templates, we realized there was a need to sort our templates better. As announced yesterday, we've implemented a handy little tool to clean up template selection. You can find info on this at the bottom of the post.

This is old news, by the way. If it's news to you, then you probably need to pay more attention to our advent calendar which is updated every day with news and new features.

If you haven't checked it out so far, you have missed:

I'm not sure who else is giving you so many goodies on a daily basis, but we are doing our best to make this holiday period a happy one for you all.

If you haven't yet read the calendar post on template selection, you can find a breakdown of the info below.

We have split the templates up into groups depending on their characteristics.

The groups are as follows:

1. No image - These are generic templates which don´t have any images on them, just plain and simple.
2. Category image - These are templates which have category-specific images, set depending on the category your domain is in.
3. Generic image - These are templates which have generic images on them, displayed at random, such as our new Kartell template.
4. Sector specific - These are templates which have a specific theme – such as our new News template, electronics, travel etc.
5. Adult - I´ll give you three guesses what these are.

I have been following the advent calendar and especially look forward to "New Template Tuesday". I really like the "News" template and can think of a lot of uses for a template of this design.

The only downside is the lack of flexibility of the pictures. Your sample shows exactly what I am talking about as the pictures don't fit the categories.

For Example, in the left hand column, The Popular Categories "Education" shows a sun, "Hobbies" shows a fire truck, "Relationships" shows a masked criminal, and "Personal" shows crime scene tape. Much the same in the right column as "Education" shows something I can't figure out, "Hobbies" shows an ambulance, "Relationships" shows a fingerprint, "Personal" shows two Sherrifs, and "Religion" shows a stock ticker.

I love the layout, and have even tried it on a couple of my domains, but I think the unrelated pictures will decrease clicks. While I understand the "news" aspect of the images, if you can come up with some images to match some different topics (i.e. dating, shopping, craigslist, etc.), I think you will really have something.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the feedback. We appreciate the images are a little generic and we will actually be putting some new ones up shortly.

The issue is really that those images are positined next to the related searches which are taken from all niches and are therefore pretty impossible to target. The idea was to get images which looked news-y whilst still being generic so it could match as many potential related searches as possible.

Glad to hear you like the new templates and the calendar. The template coming out tomorrow is one of my favourite yet, actually. And very topical

For those of you who like Old News, it was Template Tuesday Three yesterday and we launched our Gift template, probably one of our favourite templates so far and absolutely perfect for domains with a Christmas season / romantic / gift theme.
