Hi guys,

Well, I am at it again. I decided to try out a Digg-like site on Links.com that focuses on Making and Saving Money. I chose this topic because it is something that I am interested in and pretty good at. I am using a CMS product called Hotaru that is pretty open-ended but does have a set of plugins that are quite good for developing a Digg-like site. I noted that several sites have been developed using Hotaru that are relatively quite popular in a very crowded space.

My goal is to develop a site that is topical and educational and fun. If the idea gains traction I will be adding more social networking capabilities. Let me know what you think of this new idea.

Turn it into a links golf resource and make some real money,

links - money/finance ? not sure where the connection lies, unless you have a massive budget to brand it as such a site.

No offence, but what will it be next month ? see it every few months asking for opinions, and it ends up being a digg clone/social site.

get on the golf wagon and create a real business.

you have the name, and with that name you have the power to partner up with the big companies, to help you out.

Either way good luck.

Thanks for the comments stevie.

My very first project on Links.com was a golf site. Absolutely no traction. I think this is because golf is not really an interest of mine plus I could not compete with the content of the major sites. It is one think to get visitors, yet another thing to keep them coming back. In any case, it was a dead end.

I agree that there is no natural affinity between Money and Links. However, it is a topic that I am interested in and am good at, and if the content is good maybe I can begin to attract repeat traffic ... and then again maybe not. :) I am hopeful because the content is useful.

Thanks again for sharing with me your thoughts.

The domain is perfect, you can do a lot of type of sites including link building services.

Yes, I did consider link building but that requires very specialized expertise. Hopefully this idea works. So far I am pleased with the results. It will take some time to see how well it does. Thanks for your comments.

Why not try out odesk, hire yourself some experienced link builders and offer a service to build links?

alternatively i agree with dotusdomains, links is a very powerful term when it comes to golfing, perhaps partner up with another authority golf site.

Links is an superb domain name for a few different things,

best of luck,

The programmers that I find through the online services are inexpensive but unfortunately one gets what one pays for. The code tends to be buggy, not secure, very litte spam protection, and impossible to maintain. What's more, the resulting application is often light years from what I intended. I have gone down this route before and it was a very expensive lesson.

The concept of building another link building site is fraught with issues. First, I do not have subject matter expertise and there are already very well entrenched players. Additionally, by experimenting with my own site, I have learned that Google is deemphasizing "links" their algorithms and emphasizing actual traffic data to determine SERP rankings. I think link building is a dying business.

I am quite pleased with the results I am getting on my new site. Visitors are lingering around, voting, and submitting their own posts. While it is still way to early to say, so far this is the most promising subject matter that I have tried out on my site.

Thanks for your comments. Appreciate your visiting my site.
