Hi guys,

I tried out a quick experiment with the notion of building sub-domains. I quickly put together a subdomain at LINKS and I was getting about 500 visitors/day right away. My question is, does it add value to the primary domain (in this case Links.com ), if I can come up with a common idea that I can propogate and bring traffic to many subdomains? For example, lots of Digg-like sites with different vertical subject matter. I am not saying that this is what I will do, but I am interested whether the concept makes sense with an eye towards eventual sale?

I would say if you go with many subdomains that are very closely related to the main domain, then it would add to the value because you are getting targeted traffic that is somewhat relevant to the type of name it is. Some names could be two things... (eg Apple.com) COuld be computers, or apple recipies, so its a good way of monetizing a name that could be relevant for more than one nice. if it were apple.com you could also make a subdomain for Ipods/OSX/downloads etc etc

it would be worthwhile doing that with your domain

Hi derrida,

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, this is what I was thinking. The subdomains could be a set of Digg-like sites, or blogs, or whatever, and the primary domain would be the aggregator. In some way, the theme would be links. If you think this might be worthwhile, I might pursue this path.

Thanks again for your feedback.
